Absolutely smitten with all of the sweet puppies we’ve been seeing lately! 🥹
And with that being said, I’d like to take a moment to speak on behalf of those sweet babies and your groomer for just a moment.
One of the best things you can do for your new puppy is introduce them to the process of grooming as early as possible.
The first few appointments aren’t just about making them cute, they’re about teaching them that the grooming table is a safe place and that we as their groomers can be someone they come to love and trust.
The vibration of clippers.
The dryer.
Having their feet touched.
Someone holding their face.
Brushing.
Bathing.
Nail trims.
Standing still while scissors move around them.
That’s a LOT for a little puppy experiencing it for the first time.
And sometimes, they simply reach their limit.
As groomers, it’s our responsibility to recognize when nervousness becomes fear and when pushing through a haircut is no longer worth the stress we’re placing on your pup.
That’s where humanity has to come before vanity.
Of course we want every puppy leaving with the picture-perfect finish just as much as you do, but sometimes the kindest thing we can do is stop.
The groom may not come out perfect,
And that’s okay.
Because one perfect haircut isn’t worth creating a fear of grooming that could follow your puppy for the next 10–15 years.
It’s the reason we encourage starting puppies early and consistently. Their first visits can be as simple as a bath, blow dry, nail trim, brushing, face and feet tidy. Small experiences that help them to become familiar with the sights, sounds, smells and handling involved in grooming.
Each positive appointment is a stepping stone for the next.
Eventually, the puppy who needed lots of breaks can become the adult dog who confidently walks through our doors and proceed to take over the room like it’s theirs.
Iykyk 🙈😅
Your puppy can’t tell us, “I’ve had enough for today” But they can show us.
And part of our job as their groomer is to recognize those cues.
We will always choose their trust because without it we have nothing.
So as your groomer, we ask that you guys start them young. Keep them on a consistent rotation. And please give us and them grace while they’re learning. As much as we’d love to wave a magic wand and give you all perfection, it’s not always the reality of the job.
The beautiful haircuts will come we just have to build some trust and confidence along the way. 🤍🐾
