A lot of people think prioritizing early steadiness will diminish prey drive — it won’t.

If you want a steady dog, make steadiness part of your pup’s lifestyle from the beginning. In our experience, it’s far easier to bring out drive in a dog that can control impulses than it is to steady a dog that’s been allowed to indulge a reactive and unsteady nature.

“Fern - Place”

Fern loves to get on place stand. I think she likes the vantage point and that it makes her jump higher 😆

We have reached a point where I want to start training “Place” so we can use the place stand for a means of decompression in the house.

Fern 🐾

After our morning feeding session where we gave Fern various looks at casting to food bowls - We ran this little retrieve on an unknown dummy. While she was eating her last bowl of food, I tossed this dummy into the yard without her knowing. It was very conspicuous and a simple retrieve - much like her food bowl training in the previous reel.

Puppy Stuff with Fern Bern 🐾

Fern is so sweet and doesn’t like to disappoint. We’ve also seen a gritty/fiery side to her in regard to prey drive, retrieving and just general “puppy play”. So much so, I believe we will need to be cautious not to over indulge that desire until the time is right. First, we will establish some foundation in regard to obedience and our general relationship. Fern is going to be a fun one 👍👍
