We spend so much time talking about animal behaviour. 🐾🧠

What happens before it? What happens afterwards? What’s the function? What does the individual’s learning history tell us? 🔍

And then someone disagrees with us online. 👀🍿

Suddenly, all that curiosity can disappear. 💨

We start talking about who’s right, who’s wrong, who’s being difficult, who’s being divisive. 🎭

But disagreement is behaviour too. 💥

Our comments, replies, decisions to engage, decisions to disengage, and even the way we describe other people are all behaviour worth understanding. 🧠🔬

And that includes my own. 💅✨

What happened before the interaction? What did each person actually do? What consequences followed? And what might change the probability of different behaviour in future? 🤔🐾

We don’t have to agree with someone to be curious about their behaviour. 🌈

And we don’t have to abandon scientific rigour to be compassionate. ❤️

Now THAT is radical behaviourism in practice. 💅🧠🌈✨🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🖤

Another Valuable life skill that Should be considered over obedience.

Medication administration.

An experience that your dogs will absolutely experience in their life.

Sit is a skill often used in the process of administration but it does very little in teaching the comfort and safety of the procedure.

It is crucial your pup can be mindful and engaged first. a brief session to build a settled behavior prior to starting this exercise.

We are a few reps in on this game already so what is looks like to get started is personal to you and your dog.

Adding challenge:

Dont forget the dark.

There is something completely different when the world itself looks different.

Sounds

Smells

Sights

The ground itself.

What about the weather?

That is a challenge too.

Does your dog care if its raining?

How hard is the rain coming down?

What about that fancy collar you put on your dog so you can see them?

All of this can impact your dogs focus and ability perform a task.

How will you manage your expectations?

How will you manage your criteria?

What if the struggles you're having with your dog is an Agency problem.

Not an obedience problem.

Do we really need to control Everything about our dogs?

Or

Do we need to provide our digs with the skills so that they can have more access and better choices.

Reinforcing the choices they maybe that you like seeing

Not punishing or inhibiting the choices you dont like.

After all. Everything a dog does for the most part is normal and appropriate behavior for a dog.

But who made the choice to breed that dog, adopt that dog, choices in training that dog, wher/how/what to feed.

Let's give some of life's choices back to the dog and provide more dog oriented experiences

Unable to travel for our conference this week.

Since we had a good long break between live sessions we went to the park to fulfill our needs

When your pup wears a shirt with a hood and gets the hood stuck on her head while chewing a stick.

All activities must stop as she looks at me in a panic looking for help getting it off.

Of course I fix it right away as I dont want her to panic even more.

Attunement to the animals YOU choose to bring into your life is crucial.

Be attuned to the dog in front of you. Not who you think the dog is in front of you.

Observation
Empathy
Critical thinking

Very very important skills to learn, practice and continue life long floor the best life of you and the animals in your life

Draxy Meow Meow update!!

We have been back to the more public park foe the last few sessions and he is doing wonderful!

Yes there is plenty of barking. Thats not our concern or focus.

Our attention is more so focused on his feelings of social settings.

His barking can be a possible symptom of his feelings.

However we both feel he likes the sound of his voice.

Drax struggles with any form.of boundary.
- leash tension
- visual barriers
- distance barriers

He is very visually and sound sensitive.

We have been doing so much work with his ability to play and enjoy seeking games.

Find it is one of my favorites and can be played in a variety of ways.

As we are seeing his ability to engage and default "Relax" we used that as a means to play the treat skatter version of find it.

We dont fuss over his accuracy of his wait or anything. If we did he would get frustrated with the nagging.

Our abulity to relax our expectations of this he has been a wizard at sniffing out the treats in the presence of trigger ls which is people and dogs.

He will stop to watch them and make his own decisions to reconnect with the game.

This is HUGE!!! I am.so very proud of him and his mom!!!
