Extreme Heat Warning is in effect in our county until 9:00pm with a heat index up to 105. 🌡

Heatstroke is our biggest concern for pets on days like today. Heatstroke occurs when your pet's body temperature rises to a dangerous level and is unable to cool down. This can happen quickly during hot or humid weather. Signs to look out for in dogs and cats include excessive panting, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, sudden collapse, and even seizures.

Overweight pets, senior pets, short-muzzled or short-faced dogs and cats, and pets with heart or lung conditions are more prone to developing heatstroke than others. Please use caution when taking your pets out today and be sure to provide plenty of water. If you suspect your pet is experiencing symptoms of a heatstroke, call us or your nearest emergency clinic immediately.

👋 You may already know her, but we'd like you to meet Dr. Payne if you haven't already!

Originally from Aiken, South Carolina, Dr. Payne made the move to Madison in 2013 after graduating from the University of South Carolina. Before pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, she spent five years at the University of Wisconsin conducting cancer research before returning to UW for veterinary school.

Dr. Payne joined the Country View team in September 2024 and loves helping strengthen the bond between people and their pets every day.

At home, life is busy and fun with husband Craig, their new daughter Mia, two cats Brett and Murray, and their Golden Retriever, Bogey.

When not caring for patients, you can find Dr. Payne spending time with friends and family, catching up on reality TV, or cheering on the Badgers at men's basketball games.

Be sure to say hello the next time you're in the clinic! 🐾💙
