😭😭😱😱
An 18-year-old dog was found wandering in South Carolina with fur so badly matted that shelter workers could barely see his eyes. His nails had grown too long, his teeth were in terrible condition, and he desperately needed medical attention. But nobody at the shelter knew that this elderly little dog had a family who had been waiting more than three years to hear that he was alive.
The dog arrived at Dorchester Paws in Summerville in March 2023 after a concerned person found him and brought him in for help. Staff members immediately began treating his medical problems, which included malnourishment, fleas, severely tangled fur, and overgrown nails. They carefully shaved away the mats and provided veterinary care to make him more comfortable. Despite his condition, the little dog remained friendly with the people helping him.
During his examination, the shelter team scanned him for a microchip. The information revealed that his name was Binky, also known as Mr. B, and that he belonged to a family in Georgia, about six hours away. When the shelter contacted his owners on March 19, they were stunned. Binky had disappeared while the family was preparing to move, when he was already around 15 years old. They had searched for him and delayed their move, hoping he would be found.
Three years had passed without any news. By then, Binky was 18 and had significant problems with his sight and hearing. His family had never expected to receive a call saying their elderly dog was alive. Knowing how much the reunion meant, a volunteer from Dorchester Paws drove approximately six hours to bring Binky back to the people who had been missing him.
The reunion was especially emotional because Binky could no longer rely on his eyes or ears the way he once had. According to the shelter's director, he began sniffing when his family held him, then became visibly excited as he responded to their familiar scent. His owners cried as they embraced him, finally holding the little dog they had feared they would never see again.
Sadly, Binky's health declined after his return, and he passed away not long afterward. His family was able to care for him and hold him during his final days. After three years of uncertainty, they had the chance to say goodbye with him safely at home. His story also left an important reminder about microchips, which made it possible for a shelter hundreds of miles away to find the family who had never stopped missing him.
