Search and Rescue (SAR), Explosive Ordnance Detection (EOD) & Law Enforcement (LE)
K-9 partners to government & volunteer agencies - gratis Our mission: To safeguard communities and enhance emergency response through the ethical training,
responsible placement, and sustained support of highly specialized Search and Rescue and
Law Enforcement K-9 teams, provided freely to agencies committed to public safety. Our Vision: To be a premier national resource for life-saving, certified working dogs, drastically increasing
the availability of high-level K-9 assets for detection, rescue, and security operations. Our Founder:

Gil Francis's deep connection to working dogs began early, working, walking and training dogs at
the age of eight -- laying the groundwork for his future canine endeavors and passion. While simultaneously building a successful career in hospitality and marketing in New Orleans, his vigor for community care and offering services was crystallized by the chaos following Hurricane Katrina. Volunteering intensely at the Louisiana SPCA, his unique skills of understanding canine behavior and their endless capabilities was quickly recognized by the Orléans Parish Sheriff's Department. He tapped into shaping a new program including training specialized Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs and handlers for complex water searches, including boat navigation and swimming. Upon relocating to New Jersey, Gil immediately engaged with the community, offering free training workshops through NBHA and volunteering at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter to evaluate and socialize dogs. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gil took a lesser role in the company he founded to dedicate his full attention to establishing Sacred Lakes K9 (SLK9) to provide elite, mission- critical K9 units to emergency services across the region as well as maintaining a ready-to-deploy team comprising handlers and dogs specialized in arson, explosive, and fi***rm detection, as well as vital wildlife and urban Search and Rescue.

This is a shoutout post to the many german shepherd dogs we have been so grateful to work with over the years.

Here is some information if you have a GSD or if you are thinking about getting one:

German Shepherds are such a great breed for so many purposes. We love all german shepherds - however I always caution when specific dog breeds start to trend, and the past few months I have seen an incredible uptick in more german shepherds needing to be re-homed, or are up for adoption. While this is the general cycle of how dog breeds trend (or go in and out of fashion), there are a few downsides. In general, when the demand for a dog increases in correspondence with the influx of the breed's popularity, often a consequence is irresponsible or backyard breeding / puppy mills / etc, which means a few things:
1. huge possibility of the dog breed having less than optimal genetics, that can end up causing very serious life-long issues. Some of them include:
2. all too common hip or elbow dysplasia,
3. extreme sloped or roach backs,
4. the connection to Bloat (a fatal symptom of GDV)
5. unpredictable temperament.

Working with GSDs that have any of these symptoms is nothing new to us and we can help you with some guidelines on how to best prevent any unnecessary stress / pain, as well as offer different training exercises specifically if they are dealing with those symptoms, or are of an elder age.

Working with both European Working Line dogs (versus American Stock more often for showmanship), we understand the distinct separation between the ability of the working and show lines - each are kind are all incredible dogs for most situations -- if you can handle high energy. And a lot of loyalty.

Got any GSD specific questions about training / information please get in touch with us!

🚨 **EMERGENCY: Our Dog Food Supply Is Almost Gone.** 🚨

This isn't a post we like making, but it's one we have to.

Right now, the dogs at SOS Dog Rescue are eating the last of our dog food. In just a few days, we'll be wondering how we're going to feed everyone.

The happy faces in this photo don't know we're running low. They trust us to fill their bowls every morning and every night.

We're asking for your help to make sure we can.

We've added the food we use every day to our Amazon Wish List. If you're able to send **just one bag of dog food**, it will go directly into the bowls of dogs who have nowhere else to go.

🐾 Shop our wish list here:
https://a.co/0bcjMu20

If you can't send food today, you can still make a huge difference by:
❤️ Sharing this post
❤️ Tagging a friend who loves dogs
❤️ Helping us reach someone who can help

Animal rescue isn't just about saving lives. It's about making sure those lives are cared for every single day.

Tonight, we're asking our community to help us keep those bowls full.

From every wagging tail at SOS Dog Rescue...

**Thank you.** ❤️🐾
