One year ago, today, I backed out of my driveway in New Britain and found a cat dying in the road. I raced her to the ER, unsure if she'd make it. I named her Miracle. ✨

A few days later, I was sobbing over her body in her kennel at VCA preparing to say goodbye because the ICU doctor felt she wouldn't ever recover. I decided to give her a fighting chance and here we are, a year later, Miracle is thriving. The doctor commended me for my medical decision making that night which I'll never forget.

At a subsequent ER visit to Pieper, I was told I was wrong about her seizure disorder. But I knew I wasn't. I was right 🎯

I know I'm not supposed to pick favorites but Miracle reminds me SO much of my Leo. She even sees the same neurologist (and her next appt is in 10 days!). 📆

Miracle is probably my most epic rescue ever. And as I've shared before, I have no intention of ever adopting her out. She's my first sanctuary kitty which means she will stay under my care forever 🤍🖤🤍

I'm so proud of everything I've done and continue to do for my forever baby, little miss Miracle 🐈‍⬛💕

Spitty is a 5 month old kitten in Connecticut looking for his furever home and family.

We trapped him, his two spitlings (Fern & Cosmo), and their mama on 6/30/26 in Newington when the kittens were just 8 weeks old. Fern and Cosmo were recently adopted out but Spitty hasn't found his match yet. Could it be you? 💞

You might be wondering how Spitty got his weird name (which the adopter can certainly change)...

When he first came indoors, he was the spiciest of the bunch and would constantly spit at us. 🤣🌶️ He was all spit-- no bite. That's how he got his name. Baby Spitty was just scared and as you can see, he's very friendly now. He's shy around new people but once he knows you, he warms right up. 😻

The reason people say is because when you adopt from a rescue, you open up a spot for another stray kitten to be let indoors and loved. ❤️‍🩹🏡

Adopt Spitty so that we can save another homeless kitten before the temperatures drop 🥶❄️

Major rescue update: Leo's Love & Legacy is moving to Newington! 📦🚛💨

All moves are crazy but things are ESPECIALLY chaotic when you have SEVEN cats (with health/behavioral issues) to find placement for before your lease is up (in 6 days). ⏳😰

With so many moving pieces (no pun intended) and several metaphorical fires burning behind the scenes right now, we have ZERO capacity for anything other than moving/placing our current foster cats. 🙅🏻‍♀️🚫

We will no longer be able to foster/hold rescue cats on-site where Julia is moving, HOWEVER, with that comes some very exciting new long-term cat housing plans & and designated Leo's Love & Legacy facilities being constructed thanks to the beautiful Piombino family and their beloved angel cat, Mia. 🐈🪽🧑‍🧑‍🧒🧱🛠️

Right now, though, what we ❗️URGENTLY❗️ need from you guys is:

⚠️ A foster for Rilo & LooLoo: a hilarious, young, & friendly bonded pair (we've been pleading for 10 months now😭). The holdup preventing them from being adopted out is that Rilo needs a cardiac ultrasound (echo) first and then a dental (pending the results of the echo). We expect this to take ≈ 3 months.

⚠️ A TEMPORARY, 1 MONTH foster for Tito & Jinx: another young, hilarious, & friendly bonded pair. They have approved adopters but they are out of the country on a pre-planned trip until early October.

As always, supplies would be extremely helpful. Many of our fosters eat IAMS dry (healthy adult- orange bag), fancy feast (poultry & beef) paté, churus (Alice demands them), and all of our fosters use clumping clay litter. We spend HUNDREDS of dollars on these items weekly. 🛒

Meet the tree family who stole our hearts ❤️‍🔥

On August 1, we saw "free kittens" listed on Facebook marketplace. 👎🏼

This is NEVER a good thing-- neither for the kittens' welfare nor for overall population control. 🚫

We were told mama was almost 1 year old but neither we nor the doctor who examined her believe she's any older than 6-7 months. That means poor Willow became pregnant at 4-5 months old which is equivalent to an 8-year old human child getting pregnant. It's tragic. Her kittens would've had the same fate. And then their kitten's kittens, and so on... 😵‍💫

Luckily, we were able to intervene thanks to our lovely foster, Kate Piombino, who promptly set up a nursery for them. ✨

Each one of these precious cats is so loving, playful, and friendly. They might just be our most adoptable litter ever! 😻

Mama Willow has already been adopted (FOSTER-FAIL!💕) but we are officially accepting applications for the kittens! 📝

Maple, Acorn, and Oakley will be ready to go home in about 3 weeks after being fully vetted. 🩺

Today is National Check the Chip Day! 🐈🐶🐾

Created by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), National Check the Chip Day is observed every August 15th to remind pet owners to not only microchip their pets, but to check that their pet's microchips are registered and that the contact information is current. 👩🏾‍💻🧑🏻‍💻👨🏾‍💻

And we have a very real reason to remind you. 🖤🤎🤍🐈

This past winter, when we took in Sara, a 16-year-old roaming stray who was in very rough condition (and looked enormously pregnant), we discovered that she had a microchip. We were hopeful that it would help us find her family. 🤞📍

Unfortunately, the information attached to her chip was outdated. The phone number had long since been disconnected, and her family had a new number.

Sara had a microchip — but the information connected to it couldn’t get her home. It did tell us, however, that she was spayed, which was shocking because...... what was in that huge distended stomach if not babies, then? That's a story for another day but today's message is: 📢 MICROCHIPS MATTER! 📢

That’s why checking your pet’s chip matters just as much as having one. If you’ve moved, changed your phone number, changed your email, or your pet has changed hands, take a few minutes today to make sure their microchip registry reflects the correct information. At your next vet visit, ask your vet to scan your pet to make sure the chip is still in place. 🥼🩺

Kittens Fern, Cosmo, and Bramble (pictured on the flyer who will be up for adoption soon) want to remind you that a microchip can only help bring your babies home if someone can actually reach you. 📞🐱💗

We had such a productive day yesterday at CT State Northwestern! 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛

We got:
✅ 6 cats examined for free
✅ 4 cats microchipped for free (normally $25 each!)
✅ 2 cats rabies vaccinated for free
✅ 6 cats distemper vaccinated for free
✅ 3 cats ears swabbed & viewed under a microscope for free (normally $50+ each!)
✅ 3 cats SNAP tested (for $25 each instead of our normal cost of $35 each)
✅ AND we sent out Alice's FeLV PCR test to Tuft's lab to confirm her prior positive FeLV SNAP test result. ($125)

💵 Total: $200
We were able to save hundreds of dollars with the help of this non-surgical clinic. What a relief!

Huge shoutout to Dr. Melissa Magnotta of Co-Pilot Veterinary Care for running this pop-up clinic to help local rescues. We love and admire her commitment to fear-free animal handling practices. (Which she's certified in and she also does very peaceful in-home euthanasias, FYI). 🩺

Thank you to Gianna Raimondi & Rebecca Tripp for taking the day off from your jobs to help the clinic run smoothly. And thank you to the amazing vet-tech students, Levi & Keira for volunteering their time. And thank you to their amazing professor & department head Dr. Adriene Cavanna for letting Dr. Magnotta run this clinic in her beautiful facility! 🥼
