“Turtle” was this lil guys nickname We didn’t let him go to a home because he had Swimmer puppy Syndrome. We had a choice either to put him down, which I could never do. So we looked into a rescue for cockers. We knew this would cost thousands of dollars, which we do not have. So our vet told us about Austin Cocer Spaniel Rescue, where we met the absolute best person for “Turtle” Lee has seen & worked with puppies with this disability & seen lots of progress & positive outcomes. Through radiation treatments & physical therapy “Turtle” has now been adopted & he is now called “Fin”! We are so excited & happy for him & his new family . He deserves a happy life . Thank you from the bottom of my ♥️.Lee & staff for all you have done you are appreciated!
Swimmer puppy syndrome's exact cause is unknown but is linked to factors like genetics, environment (including slick surfaces), rapid weight gain, and nutritional imbalances, leading to weak muscles and inability to stand. The syndrome manifests as a puppy's limbs splaying out to the sides, causing a flat chest and a paddling motion when attempting to move. Early treatment with environmental adjustments and physical therapy can improve recovery, with many puppies able to walk normally by 3-4 weeks of age.
