We are so grateful and humbled by the outpouring of love and compassion for Rusty. We are thankful for all the prayers, kind words and donations. He has a long road to recovery but he could not be surrounded by a more caring community❣️

Who's a Good Boy?????
We don't know what breed Gunner is. Google says, Corgi, Chihuahua, Portuguese Podengo (Whatever that is)....
But at almost a year old and 15 lbs, Kennel trailed and almost housebroken, we know for sure Gunner is 100% GOOD BOY!!!!!

Recently, we received a call from the Salvation Army New Braunfels Corps about a houseless family with a dog who was in very poor condition. The family was going to a shelter and could not take the dog. After seeing photos of a severely underweight dog with hair loss, crusty eyes and ears, and open wounds, we immediately agreed to take him in.
Rusty spent the night resting in quarantine and was seen this morning by Dr. Jenke at Southern Winds Veterinary Services
The good news: he is negative for heartworms, parasites, and mange!
The bad news: he is suffering from severe infections affecting his ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and urinary tract, likely caused by yeast and bacteria. He also has a heart murmur that will need monitoring.
He has started treatment with antibiotics, prednisone, Panacur, medicated baths, quality nutrition, probiotics, and supplements. He's currently too sick for vaccinations, but we're hopeful he'll start feeling better soon.

Yesterday, we received an urgent call about a tiny dog who was very sick. His owner couldn't afford the medical care he desperately needed, so we stepped in and rushed 7-pound Harley to emergency surgery at Callaghan Rd Animal Hospital.

Today, we received the news no rescue ever wants to hear. Harley didn't make it through the night.

Pets are a responsibility. They require food, medical care, time, commitment, and love. They are not toys or disposable possessions. In rescue, we see every side of humanity—neglect, ignorance, cruelty, and disregard. But we also see incredible compassion, generosity, and people willing to step up when an animal has nowhere else to turn.

When an animal comes to us sick, injured, or suffering, we do everything we can to give them a chance. Sometimes that means expensive emergency medical care. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, it isn't enough.

We still have Harley's surgery bill to pay, but what hurts most is knowing we'll never get to see him healthy, happy, and finally living the life he deserved with a loving family.

Days like today are hard. Rescue can be heartbreaking. But tomorrow, we'll get up and do it all again, because there are still animals out there who need help.
