Happy Great Dane Day!

Originally bred in Germany to hunt wild boar, Great Danes were valued for their size, strength, and courage.

Despite their intimidating appearance, today's Great Danes are often known as gentle giants. They are affectionate, people-oriented dogs who enjoy being close to their families and are often surprisingly patient companions.

Their history as both hunters and protectors helped shape the loyal, confident dogs many people know and love today.

If you're considering adding a Great Dane to your family, it's important to find a responsible breeder. Good breeders focus not only on temperament but also on extensive health testing, as Great Danes can be prone to a number of health issues due to their size.

Bringing home a new baby is exciting, but it can also be a big adjustment for your dog.

Suddenly, there are new routines, new sounds, different schedules, and a lot of changes happening around the house.

The good news is that you don't have to wait until the baby arrives to start preparing. Small things like setting up baby gear early, practicing new routines, creating quiet spaces, and rewarding calm behavior can help your dog feel more comfortable when the big day comes.

A little preparation now can go a long way. It helps your dog understand what to expect and gives your growing family a smoother transition as everyone settles into their new routine together.

It's Foster a Pet Month!

When many people think of fostering, they picture bringing home a healthy puppy or kitten until they're adopted. While those fosters are always needed, shelters often have many different types of fostering opportunities available.

Some animals need short-term foster homes while recovering from illness or surgery. Others need maternity fosters to care for nursing moms and their babies.

Shelters may also look for long-term fosters for pets who need a little extra time to find the right home.

One of the most meaningful opportunities is hospice fostering. These fosters provide comfort, love, and a peaceful home for senior or terminally ill pets during their final chapter.

If you can foster, reach out to your local shelter to learn more about their fostering opportunities and how you can help!

Today is World Pet Memorial Day.

For many of us, our pets are family. They share our homes, our routines, our adventures, and leave paw prints on our hearts that last a lifetime.

Today is a day to remember and celebrate the pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge and the joy they brought into our lives.

The Fourth of July will be here before we know it, and between guests coming and going, deliveries, parties, and fireworks, door dashing can become a real safety concern.

Dogs don't run out the door because they're being "bad." They're excited, curious, startled, or simply trying to get to something interesting on the other side.

Management is your best friend during busy times of the year. Gates, leashes, crates, and station training can all help prevent accidents before they happen. Having multiple layers of safety in place is especially important if your dog is afraid of fireworks or likely to bolt when startled.

A little preparation now can help keep your dog safe when the holiday excitement starts!

Get your dog ready for summer adventures!

Paws Up combines parkour-inspired obstacle work with stationing and focus games to help dogs build confidence, calmness, and impulse control outdoors.

These skills can be incredibly helpful for summer outings like patios, parks, outdoor events, hiking, and even Fourth of July gatherings, where dogs may need help settling and staying engaged around distractions.

This fun outdoor workshop is especially great for high-energy dogs or dogs who struggle to focus outside.

Happy Corgi Day!

Corgis were originally bred as all-purpose farm dogs in Wales. They helped herd cattle, watched over livestock, controlled rodents, and protected the family farm, all on their very short legs!

While many modern Corgis no longer herd cattle, their intelligence, energy, and responsiveness still shine through today in activities like agility, obedience, tracking, and herding.

Fun fact: There are actually two breeds of Corgi! The Pembroke Corgi typically has a shorter tail (or no tail) and is smaller, while the Cardigan Corgi has a long tail and is slightly larger, with rounder ears.
