We are launching an exciting new collaboration with Our Sisters' School students: Nature Play Story Time!

This free-with-admission experience takes place in Charlie's Nature Play from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on Fridays in October: 10/16, 10/23, and 10/30.

Join us for stories followed by a craft or activity led by local middle school students looking to grow their teaching skills. We hope to see you on Fridays!

We had so much fun during yesterday's Boo at the Zoo, and we can't wait to do it again!

Today is our second day of Boo at the Zoo weekend. We're looking forward to a fun-filled day of trick-or-treating, costumes, corn maze fun, games, and connecting with nature and wildlife!

Just a reminder: the Zoo is closed today to general admission. A Boo at the Zoo ticket is required to enter.

Boo at the Zoo takes place on weekends through October 25th (Oct 10-11, 17-18, and 24-25), with a special Baby Boo at the Zoo on Friday, October 30th.

Today is World Migratory Bird Day!

While several of our local birds, like these spotted around Buttonwood Park, will stay in New Bedford for the winter, millions of birds across North America are currently migrating south.

Songbirds are crucial for seed dispersal, pest control, and keeping our ecosystems thriving, but nearly 3 billion birds have been lost from North America since 1970.

For World Migratory Bird Day, we’re partnering with AZA’s SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) North American Songbird program. This year’s theme is "Every Bird Counts: Your Observations Matter!"

How you can help songbirds in your own backyard:

Log Your Sightings: Use apps like Merlin Bird ID or iNaturalist to contribute to community science.

Make Windows Safe: Add decals or patterns spaced no more than 2 inches apart to prevent collisions.

Keep Cats Indoors: Build a catio or use a harness to protect local wildlife.

Sip Bird Friendly Coffee: Support shade-grown farms in Central and South America where songbirds winter.

Boo at the Zoo weekend is here! 🎃

This weekend kicks off our Boo at the Zoo season. We're expecting lots of ghouls, heroes, princesses, and more for a weekend of face-painting, trick-or-treating, bubble fairies, roaming pirates and dinosaurs, and connecting with nature and wildlife!

Just a reminder, the Zoo is closed to general admission this weekend, and Boo at the Zoo tickets are required. Boo at the Zoo runs Saturdays and Sundays October 10-25th. Plus we're inviting a younger audience to visit during our Baby Boo at the Zoo, Friday, October 30th.

Last call for decorated pumpkins for our Boo at the Zoo Pumpkin decorating competition!

The rules are simple:

Do not attach food to the pumpkin.
Keep the pumpkin intact (no carving or puncturing).
Decorate your pumpkin in these categories: cutest, spookiest, and best conservation-themed pumpkins!

Drop off your pumpkins this Friday, October 9 until 4:00pm at BPZOO.

We can't wait see what you're working on!

The Zoo is starting to look spooky, just in time for this weekend's Boo at the Zoo!

Boo at the Zoo kicks off this weekend, Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, and we’re looking for volunteers to help make it a success!

Volunteers may assist with passing out candy, running activity stations, or helping zoo staff deliver a slightly spooky good time. Family-friendly Halloween costumes are highly encouraged!

Shift Options:
• Morning: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
• Afternoon: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
• Full Day: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
