Update on the St . James Trio :
Our 3 10 month old pups are coming around !
They have voracious appetites!!
They were treated for Giardia worms and ticks and are now critter free .
Lil B (Beethoven) was neutered and began his immunizations with boosters to follow . The females Thelma and Louisa will be spayed the 18th .
A 4DX test was performed and was negative but the vet feels we need to run another as they were so covered in ticks that we are concerned we could get a positive down the road .
lil B was thoroughly groomed .
He weighed in at a frail 48 lbs !
The pups are comfortable enough to play together while in the playground area . . They are used to collars and are learning about harnesses.
The last two morning all three stayed dry throughout the night .
All three are very welcoming of human contact !
This week they will be separated for brief periods of time slowly transitioning them to their new lives .
GPRW DOES work very hard to place bonded pairs in the same home . However these three exhibit some mannerisms that make us believe they would bond far better with a new family separated from each other . We will work slowly through this transition recognizing how difficult this could be for them handled insensitively .

Recently GPRW was asked to help in the placement of a Pyr / mix named Honey Lemon .
This after their family suffered a catastrophic loss and could no longer keep her .

Somehow in this big old world we were able to find the perfect home for Honey . A perfect home and a perfect family with so much love to give !

Some days really take their toll on us . But days like this make it all worth it !!
Thank you Heather !! You not only gave Ms Honey a new lease on life but you helped an amazing family get through a great loss .

Anna is the sweetest girl one could meet ! This girl just wants a family . She just wants love .
Our beautiful Anna is 9 almost 10 years old . She had been bred throughout her life from the time she was able to conceive until this last March with no breaks between .
Anna came into care Lyme positive as well as with worms . She had a large benign tumor .
Anna was treated for Lyme and for the worms . She was spayed and had the tumor removed . Anna had a difficult time after developing an abscess but she beat that too !
She loves attention . Cherishes her food . Loves walks and keeps up with those half her age .
If you are interested in fostering to adopt Anna or adopting her please send an email to [email protected] .

Yesterday 3 10 month old Great Pyrenees pups left their small kennel for probably the first time in many months .
These pups had been spotted along with many other various animals on the property by their local mail carrier . And she did something most people don’t do . Recognizing their lives were in jeopardy she acted !
Along with neighbors help she contacted various rescues and convinced the owners to surrender all the animals.
Thanks to the help of of this wonderful mail carrier Colleen Orr , Regan Poynter of Great Pyrenees Rescue of MO , Cindy Barch of Great Pyrenees Rescue of IL , and transport made available by Chuck and Sarah and Glen Lauersdorf the 3 have arrived at Great Pyrenees Rescue in Neshkoro Wi .
They are emaciated . They have bloody loose stools and severely matted coats .
Despite all the suffering they have experienced they are very sweet.
Their names are Lil B ( Beethoven) Thelma and Louise.
They will be available for adoption when properly vetted and ready to meet the world !
If interested please email [email protected] .
Thank you with all my heart to these big hearted people mentioned above .

New to rescue is Merle !
Merle is a 1 year old Great Pyr/ Newf mix .
He is healthy boy with no known allergies .
He is house trained and prefers to live in the house .
He has lived with a parrot and a tortoise and cats . He has lived successfully with female dogs .
Merle is very timid around new people . But once he knows you he is a cuddle bug .
Merle had a very loving family and he would still be with that family if he could have gotten along with their male dogs . But he did not and the family gave it their all .
Merle’s only fear so far is of a Swifter Broom !

A home for Merle must have a physical fence and no other male dogs .

If interested please email for an application.

There are days that running a rescue is quite rewarding . Then there are days that the cold reality reminds you how little control one actually has over many life situations.
Today was one of those days .
Max , 8 years old , had found a home after 4.5 months here at the rescue . An out of state home visit had been completed and the new family had begun to prepare for his arrival .
Volunteers were planning the trip to deliver him to that wonderful family next week .
Today’s plan was a quick visit to the vet for a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection to move him a across state lines and a quick check on a slight limp that we noticed on and off for the last week .
An exam . Up beat talk and laughing . Excitement about this new home for Max as the legal papers were filled out .
Then X-rays .
Then the words at first almost muffled like a bad dream . Wait . Did I hear you right ?
Osteosarcoma. Advanced .
No happy ending . Our sweet Max was euthanized.

My sympathies to this wonderful Michigan family who was out buying a collar for Max when she was notified.
My sincere thank you to volunteers Lyndsay and Skye who did the home visit clearing the way for Max to move .
My thank yous to Diane who rearranged her schedule to take a very long drive next week to deliver Max to his new home .
And thank you to Dr Grede, Helena , Katrina and Steve from Green Lake Animal shelter for being there for Max , and today for us .

Thinking of adopting ? Consider senior .
I have 2 healthy Pyrs Max and Anna who are 8 and and 9 years old . Both are sweet gentle healthy , house trained dogs .
They are not a pair but could be.
Both are neutered/spayed , updated on all immunizations and copies of recent vet appointment notes are available.
Anna gets along well with most dogs with the possibility of large females not being the best match and Max likes everyone except cats and he is allergic to chicken .
The cost to adopt is minimal to the right home .
Giving them the best days of their lives is all we ask .
Looking for a bonded pair? GPRW has several bonded pairs in line to come into rescue once we have room .
