Let’s Talk Group Classes….

Let’s talk group classes….

-POOCHES & PATIOS (P&P): These classes help dogs learn how to be calm and polite, for extended periods of time. Classes provide real-life opportunities for you and your dog to practice appropriate behavior on an outdoor patio with other dogs and people, all under the watchful eye of a trainer to help with the unexpected reactions to Distractions.

This is a PREREQUISITE Class. Dogs MUST have a foundation of settling skills, or completed a Settling Skills or equivalent class. [Classes are typically 1-1 1/2 hours]

Let’s talk group classes…

-PACK WALK (PW): These classes provide the opportunity for you and your dog to learn to walk calmly along with other owners/dogs on various trails in the area. Providing the opportunity to help your dog learn to be OK around other dogs they encounter on a trail by practicing pass-bys, settling skills, and proper walking in and around other dogs/people.

The classes help owners learn how to successfully navigate their dog when other dogs react, how to help their dog learn to ignore other dogs/people, how to manage those surprise encounters that catch you and your dog off-guard (like squirrels, rabbits, and even deer). These real-life distractions happen in real time. Not something that can be practiced at home or in a building. Classes are great for all owners/dogs no matter the level of training.

** Please Note: because we typically walk 1-2 miles this class is NOT recommend for some breeds nor for young puppies. [classes are typically 50-60 minutes]

If there is enough interest, I will add Puppy Pack Walks to the schedule… shorter walking distance with all the same challenges.

Let’s Talk Group Classes…

-PAWS IN THE PARK (PiP): These classes are held outside in various dog-friendly parks. Classes work on building Obedience, Manners, and Settling Skills while providing the opportunity to learn WITH real-life Distractions. Most people/dogs struggle with unexpected Distractions and being calm around other dogs/people, these classes provide both of these scenarios.

PiP classes are always different, not just the curriculum but there is also no way of knowing what Distractions will be encountered in any given class. (This includes things like different owners/dogs each class as well as external distractions such as various wildlife). These classes are invaluable in helping you & your dog learn as a team. [classes are typically 1 hour long]

I will be offering AT LEAST 10 Paws in the Park classes per month this Summer. Contact me today if you’d like more information about these or any of the other classes I have coming up this Summer.

Please take the time to watch…so many children are bit all the time and it’s completely avoidable by learning how to read a dog’s body language, by teaching kids how to respect these warning signs, and by not expecting every dog to like kids (or your dog to like every kid). Let’s face it, that is an unrealistic expectation.. There have to be people out there that you’ve met and are not comfortable with, so to expect our dogs to be good around everyone isn’t fair!

Pay attention to every dog you meet, start watching for warning signs they may be giving, and help them succeed in communicating with you. No one wants a bite to happen… not for you and not for them…. Education is the key.
