We are closing be barn to outside haul-ins due to the spike of EEE cases in the area!
⚠️ Protect Your Horse from Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) ⚠️
EEE is a serious mosquito-borne disease that affects horses and can be fatal. The good news is that vaccination and mosquito control are the best ways to help protect your horse.
Here are a few simple steps you can take:
✅ Keep your horse’s EEE vaccination up to date. Talk with your veterinarian about the right vaccination schedule for your area.
🦟 Reduce mosquitoes around your barn by:
• Eliminating standing water from buckets, tires, and other containers.
• Cleaning water troughs regularly.
• Keeping gutters and drains clear.
🪟 Use fly sheets, fly masks, and approved insect repellents to help reduce mosquito bites.
👀 Watch for signs of illness, including:
• Fever
• Depression or unusual behavior
• Stumbling or incoordination
• Muscle twitching
• Difficulty standing
• Seizures
If your horse develops neurological signs or a fever, contact your veterinarian immediately. Early veterinary care is critical.
