As the potential for bad weather increases, it’s good to think about how to protect your babies before the weather actually arrives. These are some helpful tips and good things to consider to ensure our little ones are safe and protected!

Learn why ice melt and salt are dangerous for dogs. Spot toxicity signs, protect paws, and get 24 hours emergency vet care at VEG when your pet needs help.

‼️PUBLIC NOTICE – SUMNER COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES ‼️

Yesterday, we were notified that a dog who was in our care from November 10th to November 21st has tested positive for Canine Distemper Virus CDV. Upon intake on November 10th, the dog was fully vaccinated, examined by a veterinarian, and showed no symptoms during their stay or at the time of release.

Currently, 5 dogs in our care have developed symptoms and are confirmed cases of CDV.
To try and prevent further infections, we are temporarily pausing all dog adoptions and dog intakes.

This pause will allow our team, working closely with veterinary and animal health professionals, to focus on monitoring and caring for the dogs currently in the shelter while additional test results are analyzed.

Despite full vaccinations upon intake, CDV and other viruses can be challenging within shelters when animals come from different circumstances with varying health issues to one place.

When CDV is present within a shelter, it is very likely also present within the community. Dog owners are encouraged to discuss preventive measures with their own veterinarians and make the best-informed decision regarding their own pet's health.

We will keep the community updated and will resume regular dog adoptions and intakes as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.

We may be looking for a family who has experience with a pug with diabetes. I’ll share more details soon but do we have anyone who has experience treating diabetes in dogs and would be interested in adopting a fairly young pug with diabetes?

UPDATE!! Thanks for all the volunteers! We have a plan and a backup plan. We can always count on you all when we need help!!!

Is anyone heading to Nashville from Knoxville soon? We’ve had some donations of a couple ramps and steps for dogs and need to get them to Nashville. It’s not urgent at all but I would like to have them in here when we need them. Thanks!

Update-The lady who picked up Pugsley from his previous family fell in love with him and decided she wanted to keep him so he has found his new home! Seriously, who could pick up a pug in Knoxville and drive all the way to Murfreesboro with him and NOT fall in love??? No one I know!! 😁

Also, a shout out to Appalachian Pug Rescue, Inc. for reaching out to us when this little guy needed help!

Friends and fosters! 8 year old Pugsley is looking for his new home. He'd be better with other seniors or no other dogs. Pugsley will need to be examined by our vet before he is adopted. If you are interested in fostering, please fill out a form at www.nashvillepugrescue.org
