A bulldog presented with severely displaced upper incisors and significant debris accumulation. CT revealed extensive bone loss and inflamed tissue, with severe periodontal disease suspected. The affected incisors and a lower molar were extracted, and the bony defect was surgically repaired.

A Pomeranian's cone beam CT scan revealed a jaw fracture that was likely pathologic, meaning severe periodontal disease had weakened the bone and made it more susceptible to fracture following her dog-bite trauma.

The imaging also showed extensive dental disease, including advanced bone loss and severe infection around multiple teeth. 🦷💔

A 13 year old Chihuahua mix came in with fractures on both sides of their lower jaw.

Cone Beam CT confirmed that these were pathologic fractures, meaning the jawbone had become severely weakened by advanced, end-stage bone loss. The remaining teeth also showed severe bone loss and/or infection around the roots.

This is an important reminder that advanced dental disease can affect the bone supporting the teeth and, in severe cases, compromise the strength of the jaw itself. 🦷
