What better way to end the week than with an NHA Alumni update? 🥹🐾

You may remember Zucchini, who spent more than two months in our care. While shelter life was overwhelming for her and she often seemed shut down, she never stopped showing us just how sweet she was.

Now known as Willow, she’s thriving in her adopted home and receiving all the love and care she’s always deserved. 💕 Seeing animals we once knew in the shelter happy, comfortable, and completely at home with their families is one of the best parts of what we do.

Nothing makes our staff and volunteers happier than updates like these. Thank you to Willow’s family for choosing adoption and giving this sweet girl the chance to truly blossom.

From one animal advocate to another, we’re proud to continue a very special Cause for Paws tradition.✨

Last year, we had the honor of presenting the Colton Award for Excellence in Animal Welfare to Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Bonaparte's Retreat founder Emmylou Harris, recognizing her dedication to animals in need.

This year, we’re honored to present the award to Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, for her extraordinary impact on animal welfare across the country and beyond. Since founding the organization in 2011, Cathy has championed lifesaving programs focused on adoption, transport, crisis and disaster response, and spay/neuter access, helping impact the lives of more than one million pets nationwide.

The Colton Award, established in 1995 in honor of longtime Nashville Humane supporters John and Julia Colton, recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the welfare of animals. We can’t think of a more deserving recipient to carry on this legacy.

Cooler temps? Your car is still not a safe place for your pet!🚗

As temperatures slowly start to drop in Tennessee, we're still reminding everyone: please don't leave your pet in a car.

Even on a cooler day, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise quickly and put your pet at serious risk. And here in Tennessee, leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle is illegal!

When in doubt, leave your pet at home. They'd much rather be waiting for you in the air conditioning anyway.🖤

When Squeak first came through our doors earlier this summer, we knew she had been through something unimaginable.

A Good Samaritan found her badly injured, with severe wounds to her head and neck. Based on the extent of her injuries, we suspect she had been attacked by another animal. We may never know exactly what happened to Squeak, but we do know that this sweet girl had a long road to recovery ahead of her.

Over the weeks that followed, Squeak underwent multiple procedures and surgery to repair her wounds and the fractures in her face. The trauma also left Squeak permanently blind in her right eye, but you’d never know it from meeting her. She hasn’t let it slow her down one bit.

Through wound care, medications, a soft-food diet, lots of rest, and even more love, we watched her heal a little more each day. And despite everything she endured, Squeak continued to show us just how loving, trusting, and resilient she is.

Today, those painful first days are behind her. Her wounds have healed, her tail is wagging, and this brave girl is finally ready to trade recovery for the life she’s been waiting for.

Squeak’s next chapter starts now, and we have a feeling the best part of her story is still to come. ❤️

Dog Day is back at Centennial Park on Saturday, October 17th!

This year marks the 37th annual Dog Day, Nashville Humane’s citywide celebration of all things canine, and we’re ready to make this year’s festival one to remember!

Get ready for live music, food trucks, costume contests, the Lucky Dogs Lure Course, the Wiener Dog Race, adoptable dogs, our massive Vendor Village, and so much more. Whether you’re bringing your furry friend or just coming to soak up all the doggone fun, there’s something for everyone!

And the best part? Every ticket helps support shelter pets at Nashville Humane!

Volunteer of the Month!⭐️

Bennett has been a volunteer intern with NHA since the beginning of the summer and has been an incredible addition to our team. He has supported our Pawsitive Impact program by processing requests, helped with our Wednesday Community Pet Food Bank, and gathered content for our social media. Bennett is studying psychology and has also completed coursework in K9 behavior and training. Throughout his time with NHA, Bennett has been curious, friendly, adaptable, and always ready to help. He approached rehoming cases with empathy and attention to detail, while also helping identify ways to improve data collection and better serve our community. His strong problem-solving skills, willingness to jump between tasks, and ability to work independently made him an invaluable part of the team. We are so grateful for all of his hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm this summer!
