As someone whose family escaped Cuba, this is the American Dream to me. Watching hardworking small businesses build something from nothing means everything — and I don’t want to see that taken away.

When Fidel Castro took power in Cuba, my Abuelo lost everything. His shoe factory and store were seized, along with countless other small family businesses. People who worked their entire lives to build something suddenly had no say, no freedom, and no voice.

While I know this situation is not exactly the same, it’s impossible for me not to think about my family’s history. That’s why I chose to speak up — because my Abuelo never had the freedom to. Here, I do. Here, I have a voice. And I believe we should use that freedom to protect the dreams and livelihoods of hardworking people and small business owners. 🇺🇸🇨🇺
