ADH Sweet Lady Liberty, better known around here as Libby Jo.

Coming three. Bay roan. Homozygous black. One of fewer than 40 bay roans in the Rocky Mountain Horse breed.

And quite possibly the nosiest Rocky on the farm.

Libby Jo does not believe anything should happen here without her knowing about it.

And we wouldn’t have her any other way.

We didn’t breed this one.

But we sure are proud of him.

This handsome buckskin stallion is one of Elektra’s boys.

He was born right here on our farm, and we raised him until he was two years old.

There’s something special about watching a foal take his first steps and then getting to watch him grow into a horse like this.

And looking back at Elektra’s foals feels a little different this year.

Her 2027 foal will be her last. After this baby, Elektra is officially retiring from our breeding program.

She has more than earned it.

One more baby to raise.

Then the rest of the story gets to be hers.

Akashi is the horse I ride when I want to really ride.

We’ve covered some technical country together. The kind that exposes the holes in your riding, your horse’s training, and even your equipment.

I know what Akashi can do when the trail asks more of us.

Brains. Safety. Willingness. Partnership.

TR had a hot date last night with an outside mare whose owner is dreaming about a late summer foal.

A soft little nose, gentle nudges, and those first quiet moments getting to know the little horse she waited nearly a year to meet.

Fall breeding works beautifully with her schedule, allowing her to plan around summer obligations and enjoy much of that early foal handling in the cooler months.

GHS Taking Reservations, better known around here as TR, is an older son of Pence’s Blue Boy, carrying the old time Rocky bloodlines we value so much.

Beautiful conformation. Natural gait. The hair gene. Homozygous black and homozygous silver, with a calm temperament that makes him a pleasure to handle.

TR is available to approved outside mares. His breeding fee is $1,000 through 12/31.

The horse doesn’t know what you paid for her.

She doesn’t know what her pedigree is worth, what someone would pay for her, or what value we assign to the names on her papers.

Beauty just knew she saw me in the pasture. And she came running.

We lost Beauty to colic in February.

Looking at this video now, I’m reminded that some of the most valuable things we breed for as breeders will never appear on a registration certificate.

The willingness. The connection. The horse that sees you across a pasture and chooses you.

Pedigree matters. Gait matters. Conformation and genetics matter.

But they are supposed to give us this.

A horse someone will miss long after she is gone. That is the horse worth preserving.

Three baby bumps and three very good vet reports.

GMH Fancy, MVR’s Hello Bombshell, and HMH Sun N Moon had their five month ultrasound checks yesterday.

All three babies received a clean bill of health.

And judging by these bellies, they aren’t exactly keeping their presence a secret anymore.

We love this stage of pregnancy that makes it all begin to feel a little more real.

Hart’s Queen of Diamonds, better known around here as Princess Di, is Kevin’s favorite mare.

Although, if we’re telling the story correctly, she chose him first.

They’re actually a lot alike. Both affectionate. Both happiest with a little attention. Both love to be loved.

Princess Di absolutely adores him, and somewhere along the way, she became his favorite mare.

Bred by Cindy McDougal, Princess Di is a granddaughter of Maple Squirrel.

But that isn’t why Kevin loves her. Sometimes your favorite horse is simply the one who decided you were their favorite person.
