We spent pretty much the entire day out in the barn and around the farm today… and somehow there was always one more thing happening. 😂
Our nine little 3-day-old Kunekune piglets all got their iron shots today! 🐷💉
Dr. Abby and nurses Mackenzie and Madison assisted, and Abby actually learned how to give the shots herself. She was nervous at first, but she did awesome.
We clipped chicken wings, took care of everybody around the barn, and started incubating our Ameraucana eggs. If everything goes right, we should have some little Ameraucana chicks hatching in about 21 days! 🥚🐣
And then came the surprise…
The kids found a brand new baby chick following one of our hens around. Then we heard another little chick chirping from WAY up in the hay loft.
Apparently one of our hens had escaped our attention, found herself a tiny hidden corner where the roof meets the hay loft, laid a whole clutch of eggs up there and decided she was going to become a mama. 😂
I climbed up and looked, but there was absolutely no way I was fitting back into that little corner.
Enter Maddie the Baddie. 😂
She was nervous, but she put on a headlamp, crawled all the way back into the hay loft and rescued the little chick. And of course I had to get a picture of our little chick rescuer proudly holding up the baby she had just saved. ❤️🐥
While she was up there, she discovered another chick hatching and a whole clutch of eggs under mama!
So now we unexpectedly have baby chicks, a brooder set up, more chicks possibly hatching in the hay loft, eggs going in the incubator, and nine little piglets running around the barn.
Not a bad way to spend a Friday with the kids.
Just another day at Reynolds Family Farms. 🐷🐥🐔🥚www.ReynoldsFamilyFarms.com
