Queenie’s first introduction to being tied. ❤️

Except, she isn’t actually hard tied.

I ran the lead rope through the trailer hook and kept the end in my hand while I stepped away from her for the first time.

She could feel the boundary of the rope and begin figuring out what was being asked, but I could immediately give her more rope if she became worried or felt trapped.

And yep… she wiggled. 😂 That’s okay.

At this stage, I’m not looking for her to stand perfectly still. I’m giving her an opportunity to experience something new, move her feet, figure it out, and learn that the pressure doesn’t have to be something to panic about.

This is how I like to introduce tying: teach the response before expecting the responsibility.

Small experiences. Low stakes. Lots of information for both of us.

Bandit didn't need to chase, threaten, or overpower Queenie to make his point.

When she pinned her ears, squealed, and even kicked him, he simply maintained calm, consistent pressure until she chose to move away.

He wasn't emotional. He wasn't reactive. He was clear.

Meanwhile, Gravy watched the interaction with curiosity, Biscuit quietly observed from a distance, and Queenie began learning where she fit within the herd.

This is one of the things I love most about horses. Strong leadership isn't loud. It's consistent.

The best leaders don't create fear...they create clarity. When clarity is paired with patience, everyone can settle into their role with far less conflict.

There's a lot we can learn by simply slowing down and watching how horses communicate with one another.

Tiny noses, big personalities. 🥕 Gravy is Queenie's loyal sidekick, Biscuit is still negotiating the terms of their friendship, and Bandit is convinced he's still the boss. 😂

Introducing Queenie, the new girl, to the herd.

She has already been introduced to Gravy and Biscuit individually, this is the first time together. As you can see, Biscuit isn't thrilled about Queenie.

Queenie rather likes Gravy, they are instantly best friends.

Gravy doesn't like the drama, and Bandit is not amuzed Gravy is in with Queenie, instead of with him.

It's always interested to me to watch their dynamics.

And in truth, this could go more peacefully with more time. I am under a time crunch to get these guys moved in together and co-mingling. So I am shortening their time period of adjustment through the fence. I will still keep sessions monitored and short, but, they will be housed together more often under supervision to make this process still as smooth as possible.

Sure is quite the colorful herd, I am truly blessed. Thanks for joining me with Queenie's journey.

Patience isn't built by making your horse wait as long as possible.

It's built by rewarding the smallest moments of success.

When I'm working around food, I might only ask for half a second at first. No pawing. No crowding my space. Just a quiet moment before the reward.

As that gets easier, I slowly build on it.

One mistake I see a lot is accidentally rewarding impatience. If your horse pushes into your space or gets impatient and then gets the food anyway, they're learning that impatience works.

The other mistake is asking for too much too soon. If your horse can wait comfortably for 20 seconds but falls apart at 30, spend time building confidence at 20 before expecting 30.

Patience grows one successful repetition at a time.

And it doesn't just show up around feeding. It carries into trailer loading, standing for the farrier, mounting, grooming, and every other part of your partnership.

When people think about saddle fit, they usually focus on one thing:

Does it fit the horse?

And that's an important question.

But there's another piece of the puzzle that often gets overlooked.

Does it fit the rider?

A saddle can fit the horse beautifully, but if it doesn't fit the rider, it can create challenges for both horse and rider alike.

A well-fitting saddle should help you feel balanced, secure, and comfortable. It shouldn't force you into a position that feels unnatural. It shouldn't make you feel like you're constantly fighting to find your seat, struggling to keep your legs where they belong, or ending every ride feeling sore and achy.

Learning to ride well absolutely involves developing balance, body awareness, and proper position. But a good saddle helps support that process. It works with your body rather than against it.

When a rider feels comfortable and balanced, they tend to communicate more clearly. Their aids become more consistent. Their timing improves. Their horse often responds better because the rider is no longer compensating for discomfort or struggling to maintain position.

Saddle fit isn't just about preventing pressure points on your horse.

It's about creating comfort and freedom of movement for both partners.

The right saddle should allow the horse to move comfortably beneath you while helping you feel relaxed, balanced, and connected in the saddle.

Because when both horse and rider are comfortable, communication becomes a whole lot easier.
