HANSILL & RIGSBY LIVESTOCK
NEW AUCTION POLICIES
Effective Beginning With Our Next Sale. These Policies Will Remain in Effect Until Further Notice
We are making a few changes to help protect our buyers, sellers, and the integrity of our horse sales. Please read the following policies carefully before buying or selling.
48-HOUR SOUNDNESS GUARANTEE
If a seller represents or announces a horse as SOUND, the seller’s check will be held for 48 hours following the sale.
Buyers will have 48 hours from the time the horse sells to report a qualifying soundness issue. Any claim must be supported by written documentation and/or examination findings from a licensed veterinarian.
For purposes of this policy, qualifying soundness issues include lameness caused by conditions such as:
* Bone or structural issues
* Tendon or ligament issues
* Navicular-related issues
* Other pre-existing conditions determined by a licensed veterinarian to have caused the horse to be lame at the time of sale
The following are NOT covered under the 48-hour soundness guarantee:
* New wounds or injuries occurring after the horse leaves the auction
* Injuries caused by hauling, handling, riding, turnout, or accidents after the sale
* Hoof soreness caused by trimming or shoeing after the sale
* Hoof abscesses
* Behavioral issues or vices unless otherwise specifically guaranteed by the seller
If a qualifying soundness claim is verified, the horse must be returned to the Hansill & Rigsby Livestock auction facility. The seller will be responsible for picking the horse up from the auction facility and will remain responsible for all applicable auction commission and fees.
Buyers are still required to pay for all purchases in full on sale day. A soundness claim does not delay or eliminate the buyer’s responsibility to pay at checkout.
This guarantee applies ONLY to horses specifically represented as SOUND at the time of sale.
Things to keep in mind as a buyer, some sellers do not want their check held. Horses still maybe sound without a 100% sound guarantee.
HORSES STAYING AFTER THE SALE
We have no problem with purchased horses staying overnight at our facility following the auction.
Sunday pickup hours are 9:00 AM–12:00 PM.
If you cannot pick your horse up during that time, arrangements may be made to pick up Monday or later in the week.
Beginning Sunday after 12:00 PM there will be a $15 per horse, per day charge for hay and water until the horse is picked up.
CARE & LIABILITY
Hansill & Rigsby Livestock will make reasonable efforts to provide hay, water, and care for horses remaining at the facility.
However, Hansill & Rigsby Livestock will not be responsible for injuries, illness, accidents, escape, or death that may occur while a horse remains at the facility following the sale. Horses left after the sale remain at the owner’s risk.
We appreciate everyone who buys, sells, and supports our auctions. These policies are being put in place to create clear expectations and a fair process for everyone involved.
