As we break ground on our barn today, I am reminded that around this time in 2015 we began the biggest renovation here. Fixing elevations to my training field, driveway, and slopes, 150 dump trucks of fill dirt, countless man hours and $, lessons I never planned on learning about construction, and lots of grey hairs later we have one heck of a training facility!

Doberhorse is eating dinner and the feral child is hugging him.

I was told earlier in my horse ownership journey that horses should be left alone while eating. It never sat ok with me. I’m the provider, I should be tolerated during meals, the same as I should be trusted during stressful times (I’ve got to earn it of course). I find messing with my ponies during their meals to be a wonderful way to get them used to being touched all over. I pick up their feet and brush their tails, I fly spray them and love on them.
It’s no different than with dogs. I’d never tolerate disrespectful behavior during meals and neither should you. Not from your animal, nor from your child.

Congratulations to 6 month old “Benny” and his mom Patricia from Lakeland, FL for graduating from Levels 1 & 2 On Site.

This team will go far! Benny is one of those lucky dogs to have a super proactive owner, who treats him like a dog, makes no excuses and works hard to ensure her boy is a model citizen. He goes to work with her every day and is exceptionally well socialized.
I’ve witnessed an already solid puppy with a good foundation flourish into a confident young man with clear understanding of what’s expected of him.

Congratulations!!!

Our newest additions - Steve and Larry, two yearling Gypsy Vanners playing.

They have the same dad, but different moms. Bred by the same breeder who produced our Duncan’s mom. They’re not gelded yet (they still have their 🏀🏀s, for the non horsey people), so they’re in the dumb teenage boy stage, and I’ve threaten to do the job with my rusty garden shears. Must wait till winter, I’m told, as there’ll be fewer flies. Horse castration surgeries look barbaric, done in the field, horse standing, no stitches. I witnessed one many year ago and had many questions.

So now we have 3 horses, 1 dog and 26 chickens.

Bruce and the horses get washed using this car wash foaming device. Makes baths much more efficient.

Don’t waste your money on the smaller dog versions. Ask me how many I’ve tried before I had this idea.
