Did you know that September is National Preparedness Month?
We all have an emergency plan for our families, but don't forget about the four-legged members of the family, too!
A few things every pet parent should have ready:
- An emergency kit with food, water, medications, bowls, a leash, waste bags, and basic first aid supplies.
- Important records including vaccination records, medications, vet information, and a recent photo of your pet.
- Updated identification including tags and a microchip with your current contact information.
- A plan for where your pet will go if you need to evacuate or can't get home. Not every emergency shelter accepts pets, so know your options ahead of time.
- A carrier or crate your pet is comfortable with. Don't wait until an emergency to introduce it!
A few minutes of preparation now can make a stressful situation a whole lot easier later!
Take a few minutes this month to make sure your whole family is prepared, including the furry ones!
