🎉We have an x-ray machine now at Big Lake Community Animal Clinic!🎉

Their first subject was a stray cat named Fern who came into our shelter, that is very, very pregnant.

Three years ago, when we opened Big Lake Community Animal Clinic, we dreamed about what this clinic could become for our community, local rescues, and the pets who need us most.

This week, one of those dreams officially became reality…
WE FINALLY HAVE X-RAY! 🎉🐾

This has truly been years in the making and a major investment into the future of our clinic. Access to in-house radiology means faster answers, better diagnostics, improved emergency care, safer surgeries, and the ability to help even more pets right here in our community. It’s a huge step forward for us, and we are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported our mission along the way.

And of course… our very first patient was perfectly fitting. 💛

Meet Fern from Big Lake Humane Society, a very pregnant mama cat who is due ANY day now. We took our very first clinic x-ray to see just how many tiny babies Fern is hiding in there. 👀🐱

🎉 Community Spawtlight!🎉

Reeths Puffer recently asked their students to complete a project that answered the question, "How can kids make a difference?"

Remi and Havyn decided they wanted to raise money for our shelter to buy supplies by having a pop can drive. Remi had been to our shelter with her mom, and really enjoyed spending time with our cats and dogs.

Well, this group crushed it, raising $613!!

They purchased much needed supplies, pet care items from our wishlist and even remembered the human staff with a box of chips!

Thank you to these young animal advocates!
We're giving them an A+, because they definitely made a difference! 😺🐶

🎉Starting Saturday, May 30th, slots are open for the 4-week "Pet Parent Basics,
Dog Training 101 (Training Humans For Modern Dog Ownership); Building A Foundation" Course led by Tyler Aviano, CPDT-KA!

💸Cost is just $100 for all four weeks. Payment for the course can be made beforehand or on the first day of class by Venmo , by card, check or cash at the shelter.

🐶BLHS volunteers that would like to work directly with a sheltered dog are welcome to join the class at NO COST!

🐕In this course, we will build the foundation for all your future dog training endeavors using hand signals and verbal commands. We will develop and work on the communication skills, trust, patience, respect, and understanding required for a healthy human-dog relationship. We will cover the basic commands (sit, down, stand, focus, leave it, come, stay, wait, leash walking) that all other commands will build upon. By the end of the course, your furry family member should have mastered their doggie pushups and have an understanding of basic commands.

Class Outline:
🐾 Week 1 Doggie pushups (Sit-Down-Sit-Focus-Stand)
🐾 Week 2 “Stay” and “Wait” (what’s the difference and when to use) and “come”
🐾 Week 3 Leash walking and “Leave it”
🐾Week 4 class review with final exam

We are always asked how dogs and cats are with kids.
Often, we don’t have histories for the pets in our care, so we have to find out!
We had a great day with a staff’s family coming in to volunteer to hang out with dogs like Lady Bug!

She is our longest stay and looking for a home!
