🐹 Wild Wednesday 🐹

Looking for a way to make the veterinary staff swoon? Bring in 3 itty, bitty 2 week old Guinea Pig babies! This trio (along with their parents) came in for a visit and also to figure out their genders so they could be appropriately separated when they are old enough! The 2 adolescent/adult Guinea Pigs were sold to the owner as two males- imagine their surprise when all of a sudden, there were 3 babies in the cage! 👏👏 to the owner for doing the right thing by bringing the babies in to have them sexed and avoid the same situation in the future! It's not always easy to tell the gender on young rodents which is why we recommend a wellness appointment with the veterinarian after adopting to discuss proper care and determine gender!

September was a BUSY month with so many exciting changes happening around here! We were finally able to announce our move in the Spring to a much larger building (and parking lot!!), launched our new Paw Plans and brought on our 6th veterinarian, Dr. Howard! Along with those major announcements, we also...

🐾 Spayed/neutered 23 pets from our local shelters
🐾 Met 133 new patients and their families
🐾 Administered 681 vaccines (yay for protected pets!!)
🐾 Had 141 urgent care visits

What a month! Thank you for always trusting us to care for your furry, fuzzy and scaly family members!

Inquiring minds want to know ❓️❔️❓️❔️

Occasionally we need to collect a urine sample on dogs (and cats) while they are here. In most cases, we can walk dogs outside and have them go potty in a dish, but sometimes they refuse to go! In that case, we perform a Cystosentisis where we use an ultrasound and guide a small needle directly into the bladder to collect the sample! Our patients don't usually care except they have to lay on their back and hold still for a few minutes (and sometimes that's the hardest part)! Miss Frizbee LOVED laying on the comfy cushion for us to collect her sample! In fact, when we were done, she stayed in the position until we rolled her back onto her feet! She was such a great patient!

🐢 Wild Wednesday 🐢

Isn't "Little Foot" the cutest thing!? She is a 6 month old yellow foot tortoise who came to see Dr. Houser when her owner noticed signs of an upper respiratory infection. With proper medication, she will be back to herself in no time! Did you know these guys can live 50-80 years in captivity?! They are such cool critters!

When you find a great doctor, you can't let her go! It's been made very clear that we are CRAMPED in our space, but when Dr. Howard did a surgical rotation with us while she was still in vet school, we knew she had to be part of our team after graduation! She will be working 2 days a week for now and will become full time when we move into our new space in the spring (she will be doctor #6 for those who followed our posts last week). Dr. Howard shares life with her husband and 3 very spoiled kitties. Her favorite foods are chocolate and chicken tenders, her favorite animal is a 🐈 and she loves meeting feline patients, creating relationships with owners and working through cases. She also enjoys working urgent care! Please help us welcome her to our Glenpark team!

We will return to our normal urgent care hours on Monday morning at 7am. If you need to have your pet seen, please contact Emergency Veterinary Care Centers in Holland, Pomona Park Animal Urgent Care (after 2pm) in Fruitport or Animal Emergency Hospital in Grand Rapids.
