Let's talk Sedation-free Plaque Removal...
If you talk to most veterinarians, they will automatically say it's a bad idea. Why? Because I can't get under the gum line where bacteria can live and cause dental disease. Vets also call it a cosmetic procedure only.
But, what if, you start your dog young before there is a problem. Most teeth cleanings happen at a vet when the dog already has a big build up of plaque. It's expensive, so usually owners wait until it is absolutely necessary. Teeth usually have to be pulled and unfortunately dogs have to return to the vet within a year or two to keep up with them.
I have been doing my dog's teeth for several years. They have not lost a tooth or have any dental disease.
The key is to start young. Look at your dog's teeth. If there is a small amount of plaque build up it is time to start. This is a preventive service.
If I find decay or any others issues in your dog's mouth, I stop and have you take them to the vet with no charge. I'm definitely not anti-veternarian. They are very important for our doggies. Occasionally I have a dog that just won't let me do it. In that case there is no charge as well.
How do I get them to hold still? Small dogs get tucked under my legs and big dogs either stand, sit or lay down. Their preference. I attached a picture of a big dog that wanted to lay down. He was such a good boy!
I work with the movements of the dog's head. I don't force them to hold still. This is a very low stress service.
What do I use to remove the plaque? I developed my own tool to pop off the majority of the plaque without scraping. I polish the teeth after to help with future buildup and strengthen the enamel. I recommend returning in a year.
The process takes approx an hour. You drop them off and pick them up. Cost for small dogs $125, larger dogs range between $175 and $200.
This service is new to Wisconsin, but you will find many other states have been doing it for a long time.
Your dog as no after effects and is good as new when they are done.☺️
