The dog park is where good dogs go to become reactive.
You show up with the best intentions. Let him run, let him finally just be a normal dog off leash.
But you don’t get to pick who else is there. One dog that was never taught manners, one owner glued to their phone — that’s all it takes. Your happy, social dog gets pinned to a fence once, and he spends the next two years lunging at every dog he sees.
I’ve rehabbed too many “he was fine until the dog park” dogs to ever send one back to one.
Real socialization is controlled exposure to dogs you actually trust — not thirty strangers and crossed fingers. Quality over chaos.
Am I wrong? Has your dog ever come home from a dog park worse than he went in?

Nobody’s puppy is “bad.” They just got a year of bad advice first.
“He’ll grow out of it” isn’t cruel advice — it’s just everywhere. And it quietly turns small, fixable stuff into the reason people end up in my office near tears.
Here’s how I explain it. A behavior at twelve weeks is clay. The same behavior at twelve months is concrete. Same dog, same habit — just harder to reshape, and more expensive to fix.
People wait because they think starting early is mean. It’s the opposite. Structure early is the kindest thing you can give a dog — a rulebook so he can finally stop guessing.
You didn’t miss your window. The best day to start was the day you brought him home. The second best is today.

Almost every dog bite I’ve ever worked came with the same sentence: “He’s never done that before.”
He had. You just didn’t speak the language.
We’ve trained over 1,000 dogs, plenty of them the “he only growls sometimes” kind that other trainers sent home with a shrug. Here’s what almost nobody tells you: a growl isn’t disrespect. It’s your dog telling you the truth before he has to use his teeth.
Punish the growl and you don’t get a calmer dog. You get a quieter one — the kind that skips the warning and goes straight to the bite. That’s how a family dog ends up muzzled at the vet or dropped at a shelter over something that was preventable.
A dog that’s genuinely safe around your kids and your face isn’t born that way. He’s trained, and held accountable — and so are you.

This is one of the most common questions clients ask me on a daily basis. Honestly, you miss your dog more than they miss you! Mostly because they are learning so much while they’re here. Their brain is constantly going. They’re getting physical stimulation, mental stimulation, learning new social skills, and having fun while they’re doing it.

Your dog doesn’t know it’s “just thunder.” ⛈️

They hear the BOOM. They feel the house shake. But they don’t understand why.

That fear is real, but it can get better with training.

Understanding your dog starts with seeing the world through their eyes.
