At Heartland Hideaway in La Cresta, Murrieta, our Golden Pasture Retirement is all about letting retired horses just be horses. We're small and family-run, with fewer than 18 horses, so every senior here is known, loved and watched closely.

Their days look like this: a calm herd in shared pasture, outdoor shelters and 24/7 hay. Theraplate, PEMF and red light are also available for owners to use.

With shared pasture board I send you photo and video updates twice a week, so you always know how your horse is doing, wherever you live. Meds and vet coordination are available as extras.

We're a real barn family. We go camping and trail riding together (the trails lead from the barn into the Cleveland National Forest), and boarders can join the monthly club rides. If you'd like to stay close, we also have two Airbnbs on the property for long-term rent, and horses for trail rides can be an option too. 🏡

Looking for a barn that feels like family? 🌲

This is our place, Heartland Hideaway in La Cresta, Murrieta. We're small and family-run, with fewer than 18 horses, and that's exactly how we like it.

You'll often find us out on the trails, which lead from the barn into the Cleveland National Forest. We go camping and trail riding together, and our boarders can join the monthly club rides too.

Back at the barn: shared pasture or stall board with outdoor shelters, 24/7 hay plus alfalfa, daily supplements, a geotextile arena with a full set of jumps, and Theraplate, PEMF and red light for our boarders.

We're natural horsemanship people, so the horse always comes first. Outside trainers are welcome too, as long as they share our horse-first philosophy.

Milo would thrive with an experienced owner and a calm, confident rider, as he is sensitive to his rider’s energy. He is a very sweet gelding who is still developing his arena skills, including responding to leg aids, steering, and collection.

During his time with us, his occasional spooks have typically been limited to a few trot steps when addressed promptly with calm, clear guidance. We love Milo and would love to find him a home where he can continue building confidence and enjoy what he loves most—exploring the trails and taking in the scenery

The right rider: Finn is a big, athletic boy, so he’s best with a confident, experienced rider who has jumping miles behind them. He’s honest and never dramatic, but he does best with someone who rides with a calm, steady seat rather than a nervous one. Not a match for beginners or riders new to jumping.

The lease: On-site lease preferred. $750/month: Includes board, hay, and grain. Come ride as often as you like. Leaser covers front shoes with pads, Equioxx, and any vet bills/maintenance (depending on what you’re doing with him) during the lease.

Karma is an 18-year-old palomino Missouri Fox Trotter with the smoothest gaited ride you’ll ever sit on. She’s so steady we put little ones on her, and she’s been everywhere: Bryce Canyon, Montana, and swimming in the ocean.

She lives at Heartland Hideaway with direct trail access into the Cleveland National Forest. You’ll never ride alone unless you want to: there’s always a group heading out you can join. We also have a 2 other horses available for lease, and the two of them are perfect together, so bring a friend!

The lease: Trail only, available 2, 3, or 4 days a week. 3 days a week is $600/month.

Leaser is responsible for any vet care needed if she’s injured while in their care.

Pongo 🤍🤎 Available for an On-Site Feed Lease

Pongo is our 23-year-old, approximately 15.2-hand Appaloosa gelding who has truly been there, done that! Eventing, hunters, jumpers, dressage, cow sorting, camping, and trails—including Bryce Canyon in Utah. This boy has quite the résumé.

He’s carried everyone from young kids learning to ride to grandmas, and even babies with an adult’s help. He’s incredibly gentle, dependable, stands quietly in cross ties, and has no buck or rear. He takes care of his rider, but still has some classic Appy personality—an occasional tail swish or opinion, paired with a willing attitude and sensible brain.

He doesn’t feel 23—he feels more like 12! He’s feeling better than ever and loves having his own person.

We’re looking for an advanced rider or a capable beginner who can safely ride and handle him independently. Rider must weigh 140 pounds or less.

Enjoy riding and spending time with him on our property, with activities suited to his comfort and fitness. Weekly trail rides are required because he loves them! We have amazing trails and friends who ride out from our property every weekend.

Lessee covers: board, shoes, Equioxx, hock injections if jumping regularly, and vet bills for injuries or incidents occurring while in their care, as outlined in the lease. We cover his grain.

Milo is looking for his person, and he’d prefer they own a trailer and have plans to go somewhere fun. 🖤

Milo is a black, stocky Percheron cross gelding, approximately 10–11 years old and 15.2–15.3 hands. He’s a sweet soul who loves attention, and he could be someone’s wonderful trail and camping buddy. He just LOVES the trail, is very steady, and doesn’t spook. When he sees something new, he simply takes a look.

He ties, bathes, and loads like a dream, trailers well, and is a gentleman for the farrier. He’s happy in a stall or outside with a buddy, and once even shared a stall with a mini, whom he treated with impressive patience.

Milo was a bit reserved when he first came to us, but his personality is really coming through. He wants to do the right thing and just needs a gentle person who makes him feel confident in himself. He’s green in the arena and improving every day. He is not a total beginner’s horse and would do best with a kind rider who can help build his confidence.
