The Humane Society of Utah currently has six "working cats" available for no cost adoption. These are cat who are not socialized to humans, but are willing to patrol your warehouse / garage / barn / shed. UPDATE: Rescued!

Alben is an 11 year old, 7 pound chihuahua. He is Hypothyroid. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and we would like to place him in a foster based rescue. He is reported to get along with other dogs. He will be neutered and have his teeth cleaned prior to leaving HSU. If your rescue can take him, please email [email protected].

**UPDATE: Piper was picked up by a scent detection trainer & will be headed for her new job in California!**

Piper is a spayed, year and a half old Labrador looking for a foster or rescue. Piper came to us after her previous owners no longer had the time to care for her. We were quick to realize that Piper would benefit from having a very active home & having a job to do. Our kennel environment is no place for a high energy dog that loves adventure. Piper was soon after picked up to be trained for search & rescue. Although she had the drive, Piper could not pass the rubble test. Piper is now back with us, looking for some help. She loves to play & LOVES to retrieve from the water. She gets along well with other dogs but does not like to share her food. She may be too rambunctious for younger children.

Update: Milo has been transferred to Dane Haven!

Milo is a 2 year old neutered Great Dane in need of rescue placement. He is very friendly with people, has a history of successfully playing with other dogs at the dog park, but is reactive (pulls, barks) to other dogs on leash and behind barriers. He previously lived with a female Dane and was successful other than resource guarding from her.

Update: ADOPTED!

Tobe is a 5 year old male Spaniel mix who arrived at our shelter after spending his entire life in a backyard. He is extremely fearful of everything, and shut down at the shelter. We are searching for a patient adopter, foster or rescue to get Tobe out of the shelter and into a quiet home where he can decompress and build confidence. Email [email protected] if you can help.

Coco is a 4-month-old, male Border Collie mix. He's a little on the larger side weighing 46 lbs. He was surrendered due to a move & his owners couldn't take him. When arriving it was easy to see he is very under-socialized with both humans & other dogs. He is not acting aggressively, he is very shut down & terrified of noises in our shelter. Coco is in need of an experienced foster that can help catch him up to where he needs to be using positive reinforcement confidence building. ***UPDATE: Thank you Arctic Breeds Rescue! Jerome is now in a foster home! ***

Jerome is a 1 yr old neutered Siberian Husky. During his stay at our shelter, he has exhibited some very jumpy/mouthy behavior, some minor resource guarding & rude behavior with other dogs his size. He is 50 pounds and has no bite or fight history. We would really love for Jerome to spend some time in a foster home where he can get the one-on-one training he needs. That is why we are seeking Rescue while he remains up for adoption here at HSU. Due to his complexity of behavior issues we think he would do best with no young children or small animals.
