Dropping your sweet pet off for surgery is never easy, and we know those big, pleading eyes can make you feel incredibly guilty. To help ease your mind, here are three essential things we want you to know about your pet's safety, recovery, and care with us:
• The Cone is a Shield, Not a Punishment: We know how hard it is to watch your pet clunk into door frames with their e-collar on. It breaks your heart! But keeping that cone on is their absolute best line of defense. A pet’s tongue is textured and carries bacteria; it takes only a few seconds of unsupervised licking to tear fresh sutures or cause a painful infection. Keeping the cone on protects the surgery and saves you both a stressful, expensive emergency visit to repair the incision.
• The Stress-Free Ticket Home: Collars can slip off and tags can wear down, but a microchip is a permanent, lifetime ID. Because we are a specialty surgery and dental clinic, we love to implant these tiny, life-saving chips while your pet is already asleep under anesthesia. They won't feel a thing, and they'll wake up fully protected! If they ever slip out of a gate at home, any local shelter or full-service hospital can scan them and instantly connect them back to you.
• Our Unofficial Cuddle Protocol: If you ever worry that your pet will feel lonely or frightened in a clinic kennel, please rest easy. Our team of technicians, assistants, and receptionists are absolute softies. We don't just monitor vitals; we hold paws. From the moment your pet arrives to the second they wake up from anesthesia, they are showered with warm blankets, comforting ear scratches, belly rubs, and plenty of loving baby talk.
We don't just treat patients at Salt Lake Spay & Neuter—we care for family members. Let's work together to keep them safe, secure, and loved! ❤️
