Being a vet tech is so much more than giving medications, drawing blood, taking X-rays, and assisting with surgeries. It’s being a comfort to scared pets, a helping hand to our doctors, a voice for patients who can’t speak for themselves, and a source of reassurance for worried pet parents. It’s the long days, the messy moments, the difficult cases, the happy endings, and everything in between. ❤️

🐾 Celebrating 10 Years! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating a special milestone for our Lead Veterinary Technician, Autumn, who is celebrating 10 years with Veterinary Associates of Murfreesboro! 🎉❤️

Over the past decade, Autumn has dedicated so much of her time, heart, and hard work to caring for our patients and supporting their families. From the busy days to the challenging cases and all the little moments in between, she has been a part of what makes our clinic so special.

Veterinary medicine takes a special kind of heart, and we’re so thankful for the compassion, dedication, and experience she brings to our team every day. 🐶🐱

CREEPY CRAWLIES: EAR MITES UNDER THE MICROSCOPE! 🐱🦠

Have you ever wondered what could be hiding inside your cat’s ears? Take a look at this video we captured of ear mites moving under the microscope!

Ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) are tiny parasites that live in the ear canal and are especially common in cats. Although they’re too small to easily see with the naked eye, under the microscope, you can actually watch them move!

🐾 What are the signs of ear mites?
👂 Frequent head shaking or scratching at the ears
🖤 Dark, crumbly discharge that can look like coffee grounds
🔴 Redness or irritation inside the ears
😿 Discomfort or sensitivity around the ears

How do pets get them? Ear mites are highly contagious between cats.

The good news? Ear mites are treatable! Your veterinarian can examine your pet’s ears, confirm the cause, and recommend the appropriate medication. Other ear problems can look similar, so it’s important to get the right diagnosis rather than assume every dirty ear has mites.

Fun fact: These tiny parasites are actually arachnids, related to spiders and ticks!

🩻🐱 THE REVEAL IS HERE! Did you guess correctly? 👀

The answer was… a CAT who swallowed the elastic string from a toy! 😳

Thankfully, our team was able to safely induce vomiting, and this kitty brought the string right back up! 🙌

This is a great reminder that seemingly harmless toys can pose serious risks to our feline friends. String, ribbon, hair ties, and elastic can cause dangerous intestinal obstructions if swallowed.

🐾 Pet parent tip: Keep string-like toys put away when your cat isn’t supervised, and contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your pet has swallowed one. Never pull on a string coming from your cat’s mouth or rear end.

We’re so glad this kitty had a happy outcome! ❤️
