When Every Minute Matters…

One moment, this foal was doing what foals do best—running, playing, and exploring the world. The next, one misstep resulted in a devastating injury.

Radiographs revealed a closed, complete, displaced spiral fracture of the mid-diaphysis of the right radius.

For a young foal, this is far more than a broken bone. Without prompt surgical stabilization, these injuries can quickly become life-threatening.

After careful planning, our surgical team performed an open reduction and internal fixation using Locking Compression Plates secured with locking screws. This construct provides the stability needed to resist the tremendous forces placed on the radius every time a foal stands, nurses, or takes a step.

These images tell a remarkable story and reminds us that successful outcomes are never the work of one person—they are the result of an entire team of surgeons, anesthetists, technicians, assistants, referring veterinarians, and committed owners working toward one common goal.

Giving this little foal the chance to grow up.

Thank you to this foal’s family for trusting our team during one of the most difficult days they’ve faced. While there is still a long road ahead, we’re grateful to be part of this little fighter’s journey and look forward to sharing updates as recovery continues.

Today’s students…Tomorrow’s industry leaders!

One of the best parts of what we do is opening our doors and sharing our passion with the next generation.

Last week, ThorSport Farm (south location) and Equine Surgical Center at ThorSport Farm welcomed students for Careers in Agriculture Day and had the opportunity to show that agriculture is much bigger than many realize: with careers spanning horses, veterinary medicine, business, breeding, training, and beyond. We’re excited to see where their journeys lead.

Agriculture offers so many paths, and we’re proud to help inspire the next generation to dream big.
