⭐ STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: EVIE MACLIN

Meet Evie, an upcoming senior from Brighton High School and one of our Tipton County Schools Veterinary Clinic Summer Interns!
Evie calls Tipton Community Animal Clinic - Brighton (BHS) home, but she’s spent this summer making an impact at both of our veterinary clinics.

From the very beginning, Evie proved that you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to make a big difference. She is quiet, observant, incredibly hardworking, and one of the most coachable students we’ve had the opportunity to mentor.
One of Evie’s greatest strengths has been learning our electronic medical record system. She quickly became proficient with patient documentation and medical records, helping keep our clinic days organized and efficient! Behind every successful clinic day is someone keeping the details straight, and Evie embraced that responsibility with confidence.

When she’s not in the clinic, Evie is involved with the Brighton FFA Chapter, where she attended Tennessee FFA Forestry Camp this summer, continuing to grow her leadership and career skills outside the classroom.

Whether she was assisting with patient care, documenting medical records, supporting surgery, or simply jumping in wherever she was needed, Evie has become an important part of our team this summer. We’re proud of how much she’s grown in such a short time and can’t wait to see what her next year has in store!
Thank you, Evie, for your dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to learn. We are so thankful you’ve been part of our clinic family this summer! ❤️🐾

⭐STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: LIBBIE LAWHON 🩺🐾

This week, we're excited to introduce one of the smiling student faces behind Munford Spay Neuter Clinic... Libbie Lawhon!

Libbie is a junior at Munford High School and has been involved in agricultural education with a focus in Animal Science since her sophomore year. Although she officially joined our hands-on veterinary clinic this past May, you would never know it. She jumped in with both feet and has quickly become an invaluable member of our team!

Libbie's home clinic is the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic, but this summer she was also selected as one of a Tipton County Board of Education Schools Vet Summer Intern, allowing her to gain experience at both MHS and BHS- Tipton Community Animal Clinic - Brighton.

Whether she's welcoming clients, assisting with patient intake, administering vaccines, communicating with staff and pet owners, or simply stepping in wherever she's needed, Libbie approaches every task with professionalism, initiative, and a genuine desire to learn. 💉😊Watching her confidence grow over the past few months has been a joy for our entire clinic team!

Outside of the clinic, Libbie serves as the Munford FFA Chapter Sentinel for the upcoming school year. She's participated in numerous FFA leadership events and competitions, including competing at the National FFA Convention on our Conduct of Chapter Meeting team. Most recently, she was became an inaugural member of the Tipton County Farm Bureau Student Leadership Committee and was selected to attend Tennessee Farm Bureau Leadership Conference in Knoxville earlier this summer.

More importantly than any title or accomplishment, Libbie is simply someone who makes our clinic better every day! She cares deeply about our patients, supports her teammates, and has become a vital part of our day-to-day operations. We truly believe she's building an incredible foundation for a future in veterinary medicine, and we can't wait to see where her journey takes her. 🫶

🐾 Summer appointments are winding down! Before we transition back into the school year, we still have a few clinic days available. If you'd like your pet to receive plenty of love and care from Libbie and the rest of our veterinary team, we'd love to see you!

📅 By appointment only

Sometimes, a stack of paperwork represents 20 second chances. ♥️🐾

The Tipton County Animal Shelter responds to a wide variety of cases throughout our county. Their staff is incredibly dedicated, yet often understaffed and overworked. Recently, one of those cases involved a large hoarding situation with dozens of animals, creating a unique set of challenges.

Today, we’re celebrating a milestone! 🎉 After careful medical evaluations and treatment by our veterinary team, 20 of those dogs received a clean bill of health and are officially on their way to a rescue partner, where they’ll begin the journey toward finding loving forever homes!

We reserve approximately half of our clinic availability to care for animals from the Tipton County Animal Shelter. Shelter medicine is challenging, unpredictable, and incredibly rewarding. While the work isn’t always easy, we’re proud to partner with a team that works tirelessly to give animals in need the opportunity for a better future.

Please join us in wishing these deserving dogs safe travels and bright futures! ❤️

Thank you to the shelter staff, our licensed veterinarian, and our dedicated student interns for helping make second chances possible.

Every patient deserves one. 🐾

IS YOUR PET READY FOR AN EMERGENCY?

June is National Pet Preparedness Month!

When most people think about emergency preparedness, they think about their family, but your pets are part of the family too!

Would you quickly be able to locate:
✅ Vaccine records
✅ Medications
✅ A carrier or leash
✅ Emergency contact information
✅ Food and water supplies

Being prepared can make all the difference during severe weather, unexpected travel, or other emergencies.

One of the easiest ways to prepare is to make sure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations, has current medical records, and is microchipped with accurate contact information.

At the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic, we’re proud to help families keep their pets healthy, safe, and prepared year-round.

🐾 Being prepared starts before an emergency happens. If your pet is due for vaccines, a wellness exam, testing, or a microchip, now is a great time to get those items checked off your preparedness list.

📅 Summer appointments are available, including a few openings next week! We have very few June availability, and our July calendar is now open for scheduling.

“Yesterday, former Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture and congressional candidate Charlie Hatcher visited Tipton County and spent time meeting with local farmers before touring the Munford High School Agricultural Department.

During his visit, Dr. Hatcher learned more about the Munford High School Spay and Neuter Clinic, which provides students with hands-on experience for those interested in veterinary medicine and animal care careers. As a veterinarian and former Tennessee State Veterinarian, he expressed appreciation for the opportunities the program provides students.

The clinic, established during his tenure as Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture, was the first program of its kind in Tennessee and continues to serve as an example of innovative agricultural education.

We appreciate Dr. Hatcher taking the time to visit our students, learn about the work taking place in our agricultural education program, and discuss the importance of supporting agriculture, veterinary medicine, and rural communities.

Thank you for your interest in Munford FFA and agricultural education.” - Courtesy of Munford FFA Chapter’s page

☀️ Summer appointments are now available at the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic! 🐾

Our June clinic dates are set, and we are officially opening appointments for wellness visits, vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, and more.

As a school-based veterinary clinic, summer scheduling takes a little extra coordination as we work around staff availability, student opportunities, and summer activities including FFA Little Lamb Camp and Tennessee FFA Leadership Camp. Because of that, appointment spots can fill quickly!

Whether your pet needs annual vaccines, a wellness exam, testing, or surgery, we’d love to help provide quality, affordable veterinary care while continuing to give students meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

🐾 Get to know our Veterinary Clinic Staff: GUS
(Clinic Cat, Student Supervisor, Cleanliness Inspector & Professional Belly Rub Recipient)

Meet Gus, the true boss of the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic. 😺

Gus came to us in December 2020 during the middle of COVID after arriving as a not-so-friendly trapped stray cat. What started as a cat that wasn’t sure about people quickly turned into something special. Everyone who met him fell in love and truthfully, he decided people were pretty great too.

While Gus may not always love other animals, he absolutely loves people and has become an important part of our clinic family.

Most days, you can find him:
🐾 Supervising students in the classroom
🐾 Helping calm nerves with cuddles and company
🐾 Monitoring student expectations (very seriously)
🐾 Accepting belly rubs and treats as payment

After every surgery day, Gus also makes his official rounds to inspect the clinic and ensure it meets his very high standards of cleanliness and organization.

In April 2024, Gus faced a major challenge after extensive testing revealed an injection site sarcoma, a cancerous mass that required the amputation of his back leg. Thanks to the care of Dr. Klimt, Gus recovered like an absolute champion and continues to run the clinic like nothing ever happened. Three legs? No problem.

Fun facts about Gus:
📅 He was featured in “The Paw Print” Calendar for December 2025
🎓 He has an official MHS ID badge in case anyone questions his authority
😎 He is a fashion icon and has a wardrobe fit for every occasion!
🏡 During school breaks, he enjoys evaluating the professionalism (and furniture quality) of students and staff homes

This year, while his favorite person, Mrs. Hammond, has been out, Gus has spent many of his breaks with interim substitute & honorary FFA Degree recipient, Lily Turner, and her family. Let’s just say, they have formed a pretty special bond. We couldn’t be more appreciative ♥️

If you’ve met Gus, then you already know… he’s more than a clinic cat. He’s family!

🐾 Need to schedule an appointment? Gus has officially approved opening the books! We currently have limited availability this coming Thursday, and our June clinic calendar is now open and ready to book for wellness visits, vaccines, surgeries, and more.
📞 Call or text (731) 882-2286 to schedule your appointment!

👇 Tell us your favorite Gus story or memory in the comments!

“Isn’t it free?”
“Aren’t y’all just doing science experiments?”
“I thought y’all were really cheap.”
“When are you going to get grants again?”

Honestly, these are fair questions, sometimes humorous, and ones we hear often.

The truth is, we work hard to keep our services as low-cost as possible, but veterinary care still comes with real expenses. While we are a teaching clinic, we are also a licensed veterinary clinic, and every patient is cared for under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.

Low-cost does not mean no-cost. Your appointment helps cover things like licensed veterinarians, medications, vaccines, anesthesia, surgical supplies, diagnostic testing, and consumable supplies used in patient care.

Our mission has always been to balance three important goals:
🎓 Giving students meaningful, real-world veterinary experience and training
🏠 Reserving half of our appointment availability to the Tipton Co. Animal Shelter
🐾Providing affordable veterinary care to our community

When you support our clinic, you are not only helping your pet- you are helping train the next generation of veterinary professionals.

We are incredibly grateful to those who understand the challenges that come with low-cost veterinary medicine, shelter medicine, and student learning. Thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their pets, donated resources, or simply supported what we do.
❤️ Thank you for supporting our students, animals, and community.

📅 We have limited May clinic appointments before school lets out for summer!

⭐️ Student Spotlight: Alex Mariscal ⭐️

Alex Mariscal is a Senior and Vet Intern at the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic, where he has been involved since August 2024.

His interest in veterinary science began during a visit to SeaWorld the summer after his sophomore year, where he became fascinated with marine life. That experience sparked a passion that has since grown into a desire to work with wildlife.

At the clinic, Alex has developed hands-on skills he is proud of, including administering injections such as vaccines, microchips, and IVs. The Recovery King 👑 We have really enjoyed Alex's dedication and his growth! He is a steady, reliable and fun employee and we have no doubt that he has a bright future ahead! 💪

After high school, Alex plans to pursue a career as a wildlife veterinarian, conservationist, or biologist, combining his passion for animals with conservation efforts.

We are proud of Alex’s growth and excited to see where his passions takes him! We still have some availablity for May, so be sure to schedule as soon as possible so Alex can treat you furry friend before he gradutes!🌎🐾
