It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved clinic cat, Chanchito.

Chan truly lived a life most cats could only dream of. She spent nearly 15 years "working" at Maplewood Animal Hospital, greeting clients, supervising the staff, and making herself an unforgettable part of our family. She never asked for much—just frequent haircuts, fresh water from the faucet, and plenty of Churus.

Many may not know that Chan came to Maplewood as a very sick kitten. Euthanasia was requested, but our team couldn't give up on her. They spent countless hours syringe-feeding her, caring for her around the clock, and giving her every chance to survive. That love gave us 17 incredible years with one very special cat.

In 2023, Chan retired from clinic life and eventually spent her final years surrounded by love at Dr. Fipps' home.

While our hearts are broken, we are so thankful for the joy, comfort, and memories Chan brought to our staff, clients, and patients over the years.
Rest easy, sweet Chan. ❤️

We've all been hearing that ticks are on the rise—but the numbers we're seeing this year at Maplewood are truly alarming.

Just look at this photo. The large tick was removed from a patient and is engorged with blood after feeding, while the smaller tick beside it has not yet fed. It's a striking reminder of how easily ticks can attach to our pets and go unnoticed.

We're only halfway through the year, and we've already diagnosed 3 times as many Lyme-positive dogs as we did during all of last year.

🐾 The best protection is prevention:
✔️ Keep your pet on a veterinarian-recommended monthly tick preventative.
✔️ Check your pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
✔️ Consider the Lyme vaccine to provide an additional layer of protection against Lyme disease.

Tick-borne diseases are more common than ever, and prevention is far easier than treatment. If you have questions about your pet's protection plan, give us a call—we'd be happy to help!

For 50 years, Maplewood Animal Hospital has maintained accreditation through the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the gold standard for veterinary excellence in the United States and Canada.

AAHA accreditation is a voluntary process that requires veterinary hospitals to undergo rigorous evaluations and meet the highest standards of patient care, safety, medical protocols, and client service. Fewer than 15% of veterinary practices achieve and maintain this distinction.

We are incredibly proud to have provided exceptional care to our patients and community since 1976. This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication of the doctors, technicians, assistants, receptionists, and support staff who have been part of Maplewood's history over the past five decades.

Please help us celebrate Dr. Rebecca’s 5-year anniversary with Maplewood Animal Hospital! 🎉

Over the last five years, Dr. Rebecca has made such an incredible impact on our hospital, our clients, and our patients. Her dedication, compassion, and knowledge make her an invaluable part of our team every single day.

Dr. Rebecca has a special talent for handling emergency cases and working through complicated medical conditions, always making sure her patients receive the very best care possible. One of her biggest accomplishments has been bringing ultrasound services to our hospital — something that previously required many clients to travel to Indianapolis or other larger cities. We are so excited to now offer this advanced care right here in the Muncie community thanks to her skill and commitment.

Beyond her medical knowledge, one of the things we admire most about Dr. Rebecca is how deeply she cares for her patients and families. She truly remembers them all and always takes the time to follow up and check on how they are doing.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Rebecca enjoys crocheting, exercising, cooking new recipes, and golfing. Fun fact: before becoming a veterinarian, she worked as a zookeeper — and she was also recruited to play collegiate golf! ⛳
