Today, our hospital is celebrating the life and legacy of one of country music’s biggest stars, Dolly Parton. While we all know and love Dolly for her music, big hair, and even bigger heart, she had a special place in her heart for animals of kind!
Here are a few fun facts about Dolly’s love for our furry friends:
💝Dolly Parton created “Doggy Parton,” a pet apparel, accessory, and toy line inspired by her signature girly-western style. Even better, a portion of the proceeds supported Willa B. Farms Animal Rescue, which provides care for displaced pets in our communities.
💝Dolly has spoken publicly about her lifelong love for pets, even connecting it to her very first record, “Puppy Love.”
💝Dollywood was once home to Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, which housed non-releasable bald eagles and helped educate visitors about wildlife conservation and rehabilitation. Dolly’s support of bald eagle conservation earned her recognition from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
💝Dolly used her voice to support animal welfare, including lending her music to a PETA campaign reminding people that dogs need companionship and should not be left alone for extended periods.
From children and families to wildlife and rescue animals, Dolly spent her life using her success to help others. Her legacy reminds us that kindness, compassion, and a little bit of sparkle✨ can go a very long way.
So today, we are giving Dolly a “9 to 5” tribute with animal love, of course!
Rest easy, Ms. Dolly. Thank you for leaving the world a little brighter, kinder, and much more fabulous!
