The Story Behind Our Rescue’s Name:

Two men were walking down a beach after a heavy storm had cleared. As far as they could see, starfish had been washed up and stranded, doomed to die before the next tide.
As they walked, one of the men kept bending down, gathering up a handful and tossing the starfish into the surf. The second man watched him and finally asked, “Why are you doing that? There are so many that you can’t save them all, so your effort can’t make any difference...”. The first man reached down, picked up another starfish and as he tossed it into the ocean, said “I just did for THAT one.”!

All the time we are told that we “can’t save them all” & we know that in spite of our best efforts that is true.
But, that does not justify failing to use what resources we can offer to walk away from a situation. If we can only do a “piece” of a task, and then someone else does another piece, incredible results can be achieved. Many times the smallest act can be a lynchpin that brings together previous efforts with future ones that combine for an amazing outcome.

ADOPTED: Momma is with me & has been after being rescued after wandering into the homesite of a lady living in Duck Valley. She & another female probably come from one of the ranches in the area, but nobody ever came looking for them. A propane delivery person found them all living on the meager resources the lady had & she was surrendered because she was pregnant with no place to shelter in winter. Momma delivered 10 puppies Jan 3rd who she took good care of & were all fat, sassy & placed in new homes.

Momma was spayed, brought UTD on shots & chipped. She has been perfect in the house. She is very sweet, gets along with all other dogs, very submissive. She hasn’t been around cats here, but shows no inclination of prey drive. My guess is that she will ignore them or only chase half-heartedly. She has no food guarding with people & only a token grumble if challenged by another dog (now that she knows that the bowl doesn’t stay empty very long). Momma is timid initially but very affectionate once she trusts you. If left alone in a yard, she will squeeze under a fence to go looking for company, but she hasn’t dug or jumped my fence & is quiet when left with doggy company.

ADOPTED: Meet Miah a 5 year old mix breed kelpie.

She was in a family with kids & a cat & is getting along well with all here. I have her in with a female who wants to hoard all the food & Miah isn’t letting her drive her away from her dish but she hasn’t responded aggressively. The dog was surrendered because a toddler in the home constantly was grabbing her & pulling her hair. Miah was trying to get away but the kid wouldn’t let her & ignored yelps & soft growls. No bites happened, but the dog was continually stressed & probably going to nip at some point. She is very sweet & well behaved with respectful kids. She is about the size of a Sheltie (35 # m/l).
