Beautiful art and a fun evening for a great cause!

On Friday, September 18th, Cotter Bridge Market, The Arkanzen, local artist Sam Jones IV, and our friends at Lucky Dawg Rescue Inc are teaming up for a special pet adoption event and fundraiser benefiting Lucky DawgRescue!

I’m pictured here with Sam and his incredible piece, “Horse in Gold and Silver,” which he has generously donated for a silent auction that evening. 🐴✨

Come out to the Zen for a fun night with a great group of people, live tunes from local musicians Wesley Allen & the Modern August, bonfire s’mores, adoptable dogs, amazing art, and plenty of good vibes. 🔥🎶🐶

Most importantly, it’s a chance to come together as a commUNITY and help some deserving pups find their way to loving homes.

Friday, September 18th — come hang out, listen to some music, meet some dogs, enjoy some s’mores, and support a really good cause.

Pet owners sometimes assume that pets living primarily indoors do not need routine vaccinations, but even indoor pets are not completely protected from the unexpected. This week, a dog was brought to All Creatures Lakeside Clinic after a bat was discovered inside the owner’s home. Thankfully, the dog was current on its rabies vaccination and received an additional booster as a precaution.

Keeping every pet on the vaccination schedule recommended by their veterinarian is essential. Dogs still go outside to use the bathroom, curious pets investigate movement in the yard or bushes, and even the most closely watched animal can slip through an open door. Wildlife can also find its way inside your home.

Fewer than 1% of bats in the general wild population are believed to carry rabies. However, among bats submitted for testing—typically because they appeared sick, behaved abnormally, or encountered a person or pet—approximately 5–6% test positive.

Any bat that behaves abnormally or may have contacted a person or pet should be taken seriously. Never handle a bat with bare hands. Contact your veterinarian and the appropriate public health authorities immediately for guidance.

Vaccinate before the unexpected happens. A simple precaution today can prevent fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak tomorrow.

Yesterday, the team at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital treated two dogs for venomous snakebites—an important reminder that snake encounters are a very real danger for pets in our area. Many veterinary hospitals do not routinely stock antivenom because it is extremely expensive and has a limited shelf life. We believe having it immediately available can make a critical difference when a seriously envenomated patient arrives—and it made a difference for these two dogs.

Our veterinarians have extensive experience managing snakebite cases and the complications that can follow. Because of that experience, other veterinary professionals frequently consult our doctors regarding snakebite treatment and protocols.

If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a venomous snake, don’t wait for symptoms to worsen. Seek veterinary care immediately. Rapid evaluation and treatment can be extremely important.
