Help Needed: Dedicated Transport Van for Rescue Cats
> Many of you know I make weekly transport runs to get cats safely to spay n neuter appointments at an amazing low cost clinic
> Right now I am driving 220+ miles round-trip for Indiana trips, and 260+ miles round-trip for Illinois trips, every single week.
> I have been using two vehicles to make it work:
My older transport van — I call it the kitty Klunker— is still running and I'm grateful for it, but it is a gas hog, the heat and AC don't work well, and I don't know how much longer I can trust it for these long trips.
> My personal vehicle, my Acadia — It has limited space for carriers and after a transport run, it takes almost a week to get the smell out. It's also putting a lot of miles on my everyday vehicle.
> To keep doing this long-term, I need a separate, dedicated transport van that is reliable, fuel-efficient, and has working heat and AC for the cats.
> I am not a 501c3 nonprofit, and I have preferred to keep it that way to avoid extra reporting when there is very little to report. If becoming a nonprofit is what it takes to accept a donated van, I am willing to do that.
> I'm looking for ideas:
- Have you seen an affordable used cargo van / Transit Connect / minivan for sale?
- Do you know of any grant, sponsorship, or vehicle donation programs that work with independent transporters?
- Any fundraising ideas that have worked for you?
> If you have any leads, please drop them in the comments or send me a message.
> I want to keep showing up for these cats and I hope I'm making even a small difference. Thank you for supporting this work and sharing this post.
