Animal Protection League is coming to Mount Vernon! 💜🐾

The Animal Protection League will be at PAWS Mount Vernon on September 8th & 22nd helping local pets get spayed and neutered! 🐶🐱

📍 Check-in is at the tent outside our facility, not inside the shelter. APL parks separately from us.
☀️ Please be kind and patient with the APL staff as they work outside in the Texas heat to help our animals. We truly appreciate them! 💜

🐾❤️ AFTER A YEAR… DUKE FINALLY FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME! ❤️🐾

For almost an entire year, Duke called the shelter home.

For a year, he watched people walk through our doors. He watched other dogs get chosen. He watched them leave with their new families while he stayed behind, patiently waiting for someone to finally say…

“That’s the one. We want DUKE"

And y’all… this boy didn't just get a home.

He got a HUGE backyard of his very own to run and play in! 🥹🐾

After spending so much of the last year looking at the world from inside a shelter kennel, Duke now gets to run through his own backyard, stretch those legs, roll in the grass, soak up the sunshine, and learn what it feels like to truly be HOME.

No kennel door closing at the end of the night.

No wondering when someone will choose him.

No more watching everyone else leave.

This time, Duke was the one walking out the door. ❤️

There are some adoptions that hit shelter staff a little differently, and this is definitely one of them.

Duke, you waited a long time for this.

But buddy… your turn finally came. 🥹❤️

This handsome boy was picked up on Dunlap Street. He was found happily roaming around the nearby properties with no collar or microchip.

🐾❤️ HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! ❤️🐾

Around here, we believe EVERY dog deserves to be celebrated — the spoiled ones, the rescued ones, the seniors, the puppies, the couch hogs, the bed stealers, and the ones who somehow manage to take up 90% of the bed even though they’re only 30 pounds. 😂🐶

Dogs have a special way of making life better. They love us on our best days, stay beside us on our worst days, and somehow always know when we need a little extra love. ❤️

🐾💗 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT — ANGEL SHELMAN! 💗🐾

Yesterday we had a very special volunteer, Angel Shelman, come spend her time loving on our shelter pups , and she bathed ALL of them! 🛁🐶

And let me tell you… that is no small task around here! 😂❤️

We are so incredibly thankful for people like Angel who are willing to give up their time, roll up their sleeves, get wet, get covered in dog hair, and help our babies feel clean, comfortable, and loved.

But here's a fun fact that makes her visit even more special:

🩺🐾 Angel is currently in her FIRST semester of Veterinary Assistant classes!

Her love for animals goes far beyond our shelter walls. One of her future goals is to work in the veterinary field with diagnostic imaging and ultrasound, eventually being able to travel and help perform ultrasounds on large and farm animals. 🐄🐎🐐

How cool is that?!

Angel, THANK YOU for spending your day with us and pouring some love into our pups. We are cheering you on as you begin this new chapter and work toward your goals! ❤️

Cupid was born right here at the shelter and has spent every single one of his 11 months here. He’s watched his siblings come and go, but somehow, he’s still waiting for his turn. 💔

Cupid is such a good boy who is just waiting for his perfect person to finally find him. He’s not a leash puller and has grown so much, not just in size, but in maturity during his time here.
