Gardens are full of surprises. Today marks the record for the earliest everlasting flower harvest! While prepping to sow my safflower seed I discovered my overwintered cress crop had the first stems ready for cutting this morning. Filling the drying shed is my absolute favorite part of what I do here. I’m not sad about starting a little earlier than usual!

Whew! It’s been a whirlwind around here! Cold hardy annuals are in the ground and growing and I’m prepping to start direct sowing the last few open rows. Dahlias are just starting to pop up (I overwintered them in the ground for the first time!). Warm season annuals are growing beautifully in the greenhouse and will be headed to the flower cart the first week of May. I still haven’t cleaned out the drying shed. 🤭 Maybe this week?

✨I’ve got fresh eucalyptus bunches for your upcoming holiday tables, and let me tell you they smell simply amazing. It felt so right that they were the first stems cut for 2026. Our winter was crazy mild this year—my field-grown euc never stopped growing!

March is always the hardest month for me. Winter is mostly over, but spring is not quite springing and I’m pretty much over the mud and cold. 😮‍💨 Can’t wait for the lovely days when I can welcome you all into the gardens again!

🪴Opening Day at the Flower Cart: Friday, March 6, 10am till dusk. The cart will remain open daily until sold out.

The first installment of seedlings at the cart will include the absolute happiest potted ranunculus (purple, pink, and orange), Dalmatian foxglove, peach strawflower (limited, so come early if you want it), black scabiosa, feverfew, peach pom pom hollyhock, and *maybe* the first champagne stock and blue globe echinops.

Later this month I’ll bring out additional colors of strawflower and stock, eucalyptus (baby blue, silver dollar, and heart-leaf), bells of Ireland, statice, and lots more. 😚

Hope to see you, my friends. Please spread the word and bring a cardboard box to make loading your car easier. 😉

Can you overwinter eucalyptus without a hoop house? This is my most frequently asked question. It’s really not hard, and so rewarding.
