Nice article about SAIN in the Saturday paper. Other than my quote actually being in regard to Nevada, not Nova, it was well done.

Skagit Animals in Need started when an animal control officer found herself fostering nine horses on her own dime. Now it's a network of foster homes, volunteers and adopters giving

When a young horse's first saddling goes well, that's when you know you've done a good job of preparing it for this stage of it's training and future riding life. I always hope for the best but expect the worst so I am not disappointed. Catalina took the saddle today for the first time as if she has been wearing it her whole life. That is a win for both of us.

We are very sad about Smudge's latest challenge, but committed to caring for him as long as he can be kept safe and comfortable. Please consider a donation to SAIN towards his expenses. He turns 14 next month and is otherwise healthy, so could still live a long life.

SAIN will have a table at these Disaster Assistance Centers -- at least both days in Burlington. We are trying to get Concrete staffed as well. We will be taking applications for assistance to address flood-related losses related to animals.

Feeling relieved that the dikes held, protecting our part of the county, but sad for those whose homes were flooded. The horses that were evacuated have all returned, and the two evacuees we took in will be going home today, so things are starting to feel more normal for us (though I'll miss having this adorable little dude around!). So very grateful to our friends who took in horses for us, and to all of those who have worked so hard to keep us safe. Now bracing for forecasted high winds and more rain which will cause more flooding.
