There is nothing better than seeing pets leave the shelter and head home with the families who have been waiting for them. This week, 6 of our amazing animals found their perfect matches, and we couldn't be more excited!

We need more volunteers to help with event-day support and cleanup for the 2026 Shasta Mountain Art, Wine & Brew Festival on June 27th.

Event and clean up shifts are 4 hours or less timewise, and they are really fun!!!

Help out and meet people, support shelter pets, and help make an amazing experience for hundreds of attendees.

As a thank you:
🍻 Volunteers 21+ receive a free Tasting Garden drink card
👕 All volunteers receive an event t-shirt

Whether you're helping guests find their way, supporting vendors, pouring beverages, or helping us leave the park cleaner than we found it, every volunteer plays an important role in making Brewfest a success.

🐾 PLAN YOUR VISIT: California Adopt-a-Pet Day! 🐾

This Saturday, June 6th, adoption fees for all already altered pets will be completely waived thanks to California Adopt-a-Pet Day and its partners 💙

If you've been thinking about adding a pet to your family, now is a great time to come meet some incredible dogs and cats looking for homes.

⏱️ A Few Adoption Day Tips

🐾 Adoptions are first come, first served. We are unable to place holds before the event.
🐾 Every adoption includes a conversation with our staff to help make the best possible match for both the animal and adopter.
🐾 Please be patient with our team. We expect a busy day and want to give every family and every pet the time they deserve.

🟢 Already Fixed?
Their adoption fee is FREE! These pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to head home the same day.

🟡 Not Yet Fixed?
Some animals are still waiting for their spay/neuter appointment. These pets can still be adopted, but will require our standard adoption fee and sterilization deposit. We'll work with you to ensure they receive their surgery and stay compliant with California law.

What if your Saturday adventure could include a shelter dog? 🐾💙

Our Doggie Day Out volunteers help give shelter dogs a break from kennel life by taking them on walks, hikes, coffee runs, park visits, and other fun outings.

For many dogs, these adventures provide valuable enrichment, help build confidence, and teach us more about how they behave outside the shelter environment.

You don't have to be a professional dog trainer. We'll help match you with an appropriate dog and provide guidance along the way.

The best part? You get a hiking buddy, and the dog gets a great day 💙

I have a very important announcement!

There are 16 of us here at the shelter right now, and quite frankly, we're running low on forehead kisses, lap time, and people telling us we're handsome.

Some of us are tiny kittens. Some of us are grown-ups. One of us is even a distinguished 17-year-old gentleman. But we all agree on one thing:
Humans are pretty great.

We love when people stop by to visit. We love being talked to, petted, cuddled, and admired. We love hearing someone say, "Oh, this one is cute," even if they're talking about one of our roommates.

And who knows? Maybe you'll meet your new best friend.

So if you've been thinking about visiting the shelter, consider this your official invitation from me, Beenko.

Come say hello. The cuddles are free, and we're very, very good at them.

Not all animal rescue happens at the shelter 🛍️🐾💙

Every donation sorted, every customer helped, and every item sold at the Siskiyou Humane Thrift Store helps support the animals at our Adoption Center.

We're currently looking for a few more volunteers to join our thrift store team, especially those interested in helping with customer service, organizing merchandise, and processing donations.

It's a great opportunity to gain retail experience, meet people in the community, and make a direct impact for local animals at the same time 💙

Every now and then, a dog comes along whose perfect home is a little harder to find.

Right now, that’s Sunny and Angelo. These two beautiful Cane Corso/Mastiff mixes are back in our care. There is zero blame or shame here; behavior is complex, life happens, and sometimes a match just isn't the right fit despite everyone trying their best.

The wonderful thing about their time in homes is that we now truly understand what they need to thrive. They are magnificent, complex dogs who need experienced, breed-savvy handlers. People who understand the beauty of guardian breeds, the importance of structure, and how to happily manage clear boundaries.

💙 Angelo is a loyal, incredibly intelligent Cane Corso mix who shines when he has clear structure and guidance. He is looking for a dedicated owner who understands his breed's natural instincts and is excited to continue his training, helping him navigate the world successfully.

💙 Sunny is looking for a sanctuary where she can be your one-and-only dog. She thrives on consistency and clear expectations, and needs a patient human who understands that building true trust takes a little time. Once she knows she's safe, she has an incredible amount of love to give and just wants to keep building her confidence.

Because we know exactly what Sunny and Angelo need, we’re entirely committed to finding the right homes for them, not just the next homes. They aren't for the average pet owner, and that is okay! But for the right person, they will be the ultimate, rewarding project and the most fiercely loyal companions you could ever ask for.

This is where we need your help.

The perfect match for Angelo or Sunny might not follow our page yet. They might live outside Siskiyou County. They might be a trainer, a breed enthusiast, or an experienced owner in your extended circle.
