Update on Zebra!

Zebra has been improving slowly this week.

We have been working closely with our veterinarians and providing syringe feeding and subcutaneous fluids to support his recovery. He has had several vet visits, and as we know, every kitten and cat responds differently to surgery.

Recovery can often be a bit of a rollercoaster, so we are monitoring Zebra very closely and adjusting his care as needed. We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making and remain hopeful that he will continue moving in the right direction.

Thank you for all the love, support, and well wishes you’ve sent Zebra during his recovery journey.

12 kittens and 9 adult feral cats, living quietly in the large lot of a construction business. The people who work there and graciously feed the cats daily guessed there were four adults and a few kittens. That is how stealthy these creatures are!

The colony’s caretakers had no idea that a small family of cats was growing at lightning pace. ACR has TNR’d all of the adult cats and taken all of the kittens in to be socialized - COLONY CLOSED!

Our next task is to socialize these spicy babies. The outlook is good, despite their fierce hisses. They’re all very young and we will work with them individually, using patience and positive association with food and play. Consistent exposure is key too.

‼️PRESS RELEASE - ACR Urges US Senate to Help Rescues and Save Lives by Passing the BARK Act ‼️

We struggle, like most animal welfare groups, with the enormous cost of feeding the many animals in our care. The BARK Act could give groups like ACR much-needed relief by allowing companies and individuals to donate near-expired and damaged food that is still safe for consumption.

This bill just passed in the House! Now is the time to act!

We are concerned about Zebra. He isn’t eating much and he isn’t even excited by baby food, which has been his favorite treat until now.

Zebra had been to the vet just a couple days ago and they said his condition was fine. We are now weighing him daily, we’ve given fluids, and if he doesn’t perk back up by tomorrow, a vet visit will be needed.

Edit to add: Thank you for the good energy! We will share an update on Zebra tomorrow!

Little Fin has blossomed into a full Cha Cha Chia, but she continues to puzzle us. We are still waiting on her latest lab results as we search for answers about why she remains so incredibly tiny.

The good news is that Cha Cha Chia is eating more and showing more energy every day. She adores playtime, loves her meals, and keeps everyone smiling with her sweet, spunky personality.

Her weight is slowly creeping upward, but progress has been frustratingly slow. At just over two months old, Cha Cha Chia still weighs about the same as a typical 2- to 3-week-old kitten.

While we wait for more information from her lab work, we are focused on keeping her happy, comfortable, and well-fed. Thank you for following her journey and for helping us give this tiny fighter every opportunity to grow stronger. Your support means the world to Cha Cha Chia—and to all of us who love her. ❤️

Zebra was found with a broken leg that needed surgery. While all of his healthy littermates had been taken by others, he was left behind because he was injured.

After surgery, we gave him blankets, food, cuddles, and even a warm heating pad—but he cried nonstop.

Then we learned his mama was still nearby.

The moment they were reunited, Zebra curled up beside her and hasn’t stopped cuddling since. ❤️

A reminder that sometimes the best medicine is mom. 🐾

Lily was suffering from painful mastitis, yet she somehow continued nursing all six of her babies. By the time she came to us, she was skin and bones—a reminder of how much mother cats sacrifice for their kittens.

Thankfully, the kittens are now eating on their own, and Lily has been spayed, treated with antibiotics, and is finally getting the care and good food she needs.

Lily’s story is also an important reminder: don’t just rescue the kittens—help mom too. Too often, people take the kittens and leave the mother behind to suffer, only for her to become pregnant again.

Always get the mother cat and get her spayed. It protects her health, prevents future suffering, and helps stop the cycle. ❤️
