🐾 β€œBut isn’t my pet too old for anesthesia?”

It’s a concern we hear oftenβ€”but age itself is not a disease. ❀️

Senior pets can experience changes in their heart, lungs, kidneys, and metabolism, and they are more likely to have other health conditions as they age. That’s why we take extra care to evaluate each senior patient before anesthesia and tailor their anesthetic plan to their individual needs. 🩺

Being older doesn’t automatically mean your pet can’t safely undergo anesthesia. Our goal is to understand their health, anticipate their needs, and monitor them carefully every step of the way.

Your pet’s age is just one piece of the bigger picture. πŸΆπŸ±πŸ’›

If your cat isn't a big drinker, try:
πŸ’§ Offering a water fountain
πŸ’§ Keeping multiple water bowls around the house
πŸ’§ Using wide, shallow bowls
πŸ’§ Adding wet food to their diet
πŸ’§ Keeping water fresh and away from the litter box

More walks + cooler weather = some very happy pups. 🌼🐢

As we head toward fall, don't retire that parasite prevention just yet! Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and other parasites don't automatically disappear when summer ends β€” especially during warm Southern falls.

Keep those preventives going year-round and enjoy the extra outdoor adventures. πŸ‚πŸΎ

🚨 Rabies is still here β€” and prevention starts with you. 🚨

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can affect any mammal, including our pets and us. Once clinical signs develop, rabies is almost always fatal. The good news? Rabies is preventable.

And this isn't just a worldwide concern β€” it's happening right here in South Carolina. South Carolina has already reported 72 confirmed rabies cases in 2026, with recent cases involving wildlife and livestock across multiple counties. Several pets have also been exposed and required quarantine.

🐢 How can you protect your pet?

πŸ’‰ Keep rabies vaccines current. South Carolina law requires dogs, cats, and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies and kept continuously protected.

🦝 Give wildlife their space. Raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes are among the animals commonly associated with rabies in the U.S. Never approach or handle wildlife β€” especially animals acting strangely or found sick, injured, or dead.

πŸ• Keep pets supervised. Preventing interactions between your pets and wildlife is one of the simplest ways to reduce exposure risk.

πŸ“ž If an exposure happens, act quickly. If your pet is bitten or has potentially come into contact with a wild animal, contact your veterinarian and local public health officials promptly. Don't wait for symptoms to appear.

A rabies vaccine is protection for your pet, your family, and your community. ❀️🐾

This World Rabies Day, make sure your pet's rabies vaccine is up to date.

Does your cat disappear the second the carrier comes out? πŸ‘€πŸˆβ€β¬›

Here's a tip: don't let the carrier mean "VET VISIT!"

Leave it out at home with the door open, add a familiar blanket, occasionally toss treats or toys inside, and let your cat explore it on their own. Making the carrier part of everyday life can help it feel more like a safe space β€” and less like a warning that something suspicious is happening. πŸ˜‚

And don't forget to find the carrier style that works best for your cat! Hard-sided carriers, soft-sided carriers, and secure cat bags can all offer different benefits depending on your kitty and how they prefer to travel.

Johnny here seems pretty content with his cat bag! πŸ₯ΉπŸˆβ€β¬›

A little preparation at home can make travel and veterinary visits much less stressful for everyone. πŸ’™

Double trouble. πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬›

Kittens may be tiny, but their first few months come with a pretty big to-do list!

A strong start includes routine veterinary exams, age-appropriate vaccines, parasite prevention, proper nutrition, and plenty of safe socialization. 🩺🐾

Starting healthy habits early can help set your kitten up for a happy, healthy life β€” even if they're already plotting a little mischief. πŸ˜‚
