We remember...

Nearly 300 to 400 search and rescue dogs worked at Ground Zero in the days and weeks following September 11th. They moved through rubble and ash alongside first responders, their presence offering comfort and purpose when the world felt shattered. These weren't just working dogs—they were partners, steadying forces, quiet heroes in an unimaginable tragedy.

All of them have since passed. But what they did in those darkest hours remains a testament to what dogs are capable of: unwavering courage, relentless devotion, and a willingness to work until there's nothing left to give. They didn't understand the scale of loss around them. They only knew they had a job to do and people who needed them.

Their legacy lives on in every search and rescue dog working today, in every handler who trusts their dog's instincts, and in every person who remembers what these beautiful souls accomplished when it mattered most. They deserve to be honored not just on this day, but always.

Update

🚧 Winfield Avenue Street Improvement Project Update 🚧

As the Winfield Avenue Street Improvement Project nears completion, the contractor will be paving early tomorrow morning to take advantage of cooler temperatures before the forecasted heat reaches the mid-90s.

Construction crews may arrive as early as 4:00 a.m. to prepare equipment, with the first concrete truck scheduled to arrive around 4:30 a.m. Mobile lighting will be used during the early morning hours as paving operations get underway.

Residents along Winfield Avenue between N. Palm Avenue and N. Grand Avenue may experience increased noise from construction equipment and vehicles during this time.

We understand this early start may be disruptive and appreciate your patience and understanding. Beginning work earlier in the day helps ensure the best possible paving conditions and supports the quality of the finished roadway.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work toward completing this important improvement project. 🚧👷‍♂️🛣️

🚧 Temporary Road Closure on Winfield Avenue 🚧

Please be advised that Winfield Avenue will be temporarily closed between Palm Avenue and the Walmart North Entrance beginning late this afternoon or tomorrow morning as Kinney & Sons Excavating and Grading installs two storm sewer crossings.

📍 Closure locations: • East side of Palm Avenue • West side of the Walmart North Entrance

🛍️ Businesses between Palm Avenue and Grand Avenue will remain accessible. Customers and deliveries should use James Avenue to reach the temporary rear access routes located on the north side of the businesses.

⏳ Each storm sewer crossing is expected to take approximately one day to complete, with the entire closure anticipated to last about two days, weather permitting.

Please plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the construction area. We appreciate your patience and understanding as these improvements are completed.
