🐾⭐️Happy Veterinary Technician Week! ⭐️🐾

This week, we want to take a moment to recognize some truly incredible people who make such a difference here at Northwoods Pet Care Center, every single day!

Our veterinary technicians are so much more than just great at their jobs. They are some of the most caring, compassionate, thoughtful, and hardworking people you could ever hope to have caring for your pets. ❤️

They treat every patient with kindness, go above and beyond to make sure each animal feels safe and loved, and genuinely care about the families who trust us with their furry loved ones.

Being a veterinary technician isn’t always easy. There are long days, difficult moments, and plenty of behind-the-scenes work that often goes unnoticed. But through it all, our techs continue to show up with big hearts, helping hands, and an unwavering dedication to the animals in their care.

I truly believe we have some of the very best veterinary technicians around, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team we have. 🥰

To our amazing techs: Thank you for your compassion, your dedication, your patience, and most importantly, for being the wonderful people you are. Our clinic wouldn’t be the same without you!

Please help us show these incredible people some love this week! 🐶🐱🐾

Again, Happy Vet Tech Week! 💕

🍁🐾 Hello, October!🐾🍂

Fall is officially here, but flea and tick season isn’t over!

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear this time of year is that once temperatures start dropping, pets no longer need flea and tick prevention. Unfortunately, those unwanted hitchhikers can still be active throughout the fall — and fleas can happily make themselves at home indoors. 🏠

Keep your pet protected this fall:

🐾 Continue your pet’s flea and tick prevention as recommended by your veterinarian.

🐾 Check your pet after walks, hikes, hunting trips, or time spent playing in leaves and tall grass.

🐾 Remember that ticks can remain active during stretches of mild fall weather.

🐾 Fleas brought inside can survive and reproduce in the warm environment of your home, making an infestation much harder to eliminate.

And remember — indoor pets aren’t completely risk-free either. Fleas and ticks can hitch a ride inside on other pets, clothing, or belongings.

Keeping prevention consistent is much easier than dealing with a flea infestation or a tick-borne illness later.

🍂 Enjoy the beautiful Michigan fall with your four-legged family members — just don’t forget their parasite protection!

☀️Pets can overheat much faster than people, and heatstroke can become life-threatening in just minutes. Even healthy pets are at risk during extreme heat.

To help keep them safe:

🏠 Keep them indoors in air conditioning or a cool, well-ventilated area.
💧 Make sure fresh, cool water is always available.
🚶 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler.
🐾 Check the pavement with the back of your hand—it can burn paw pads in seconds.
🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle, even with the windows cracked.
🐰 Don't forget small pets and outdoor animals—they need shade, plenty of water, and relief from the heat, too.

Watch for signs of heatstroke:
⚠️ Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, bright red gums, confusion, or collapse.

If you think your pet is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference. Stay cool and keep your furry family members safe this summer! ❤️🐾

What an incredible day we had at Merlin's Day! 🐾❤️

We had such a wonderful time being part of this amazing community event and helping raise money for a truly great cause. It was so rewarding to see so many familiar faces—both human and canine! 🐶

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, said hello, shared stories about your pets, and supported this fantastic event. We feel so grateful to be part of such a caring community and love every opportunity to connect with all of you outside the clinic.

We can't wait to do it again next year! 💙

The countdown is on, come join us!! We can't wait to see familiar faces, meet new friends, and share a fun-filled day with some of our favorite pets and their people. We hope to see you there!

In honor of our best buddy, Merlin, the Mountain Town Station coonhound, who crossed the rainbow bridge in July of 2024, we will be once again hosting Merlin's Day - a FREE dog friendly picnic in our beautiful garden with donations going directly to the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) of Isabella County.

On Saturday, June 27th th from 11am-1pm, we will be having free hot dogs for the humans, pupcups for the pups, doggie goodies from PetSmart of Mt. Pleasant & Magoo's Pet Outlet, free nail trims (courtesy of Northwoods Pet Care Center), pet photos (courtesy of Emily Rose Photography) and information from Mitten State Dog Training & Boarding.

Cash bar will be available outdoors for those interested.

In addition, HATS will be in attendance with information about adoptable dogs to showcase in honor of Merlin, who was adopted himself from HATS.

Again, this is a FREE event, any donations will go directly to HATS to help other dogs, like Merlin, find their forever homes.

Merlin's favorite place was the grounds of Mountain Town Station, he would greet guests on their way to dinner, take swims in the river, beg employees for treats (with those sweet 'give-me-bacon' eyes of his, and terrorize squirrels by sitting under the trees and watching them..all..day..long.
So bring your furry best friends to our garden, make some friends, (possibly adopt one!?), and enjoy some hot dogs and pupcups, just like Merlin would have wanted.

*Please keep your dog leashed and make sure they are up-to-date on their vaccines*
