Yesterday’s storm was a lot of wind & rain. It wreaked some havoc in the garden, which felt pretty gutting to watch.

But that’s the thing about nature - each season has its challenges & there’s always another opportunity.

The dahlias will (mostly) continue to grow, even if they’re less aesthetic, and hopefully come October I’ll harvest tubers and we’ll do it again next year. Maybe next year I’ll do a better job of staking but don’t hold your breath.

At least we’re getting the rain we’ve needed!

It’s the end of August, which means it’s coming up on the best time (my opinion) to plant a native garden bed. The cooler temps and slightly (I hope) rainier weather makes it much easier to establish good roots with less plant stress.

I’m strongly considering a new 95’ garden bed and a culvert/ditch project. It’s the best-worst idea I’ve had all year.

Last Friday I spent the evening at for their Lavender Evening Fest. It was lovely - sights and sounds and beyond.

May started quiet and cold, but this last week hit the ground running. There’s lots of weeds that still need weeding but it’s coming! I pulled some figwort that appeared to have asters yellow and will dispose of it so hopefully it doesn’t spread. The dahlias in the back are planted, hopefully the front will be in tomorrow. And I’ll be adding lots of perennials to the rose beds during the next few weeks. Plus I’ll be potting up around 30 different native plant species that will be ready for a fall sale.

Can’t wait to see where this growing season takes us. Hope you’ll come along for the ride!
