Some reunions are just extra special. ❤️

Schatzi and Kela are 11 year old littermate sisters who retired from our breeding program years ago. They each went on to wonderful homes, but this week they both happened to come back for a visit and had the sweetest reunion! 🥰🥰

Time may pass, but some bonds never fade ❤️

Quantus and Tessa von Stonehill will be interred at the Michigan War Dog Memorial this Saturday at noon. They are being honored for nearly a decade of faithful service to the memorial and all its dedication to working dogs and their handlers.

Quantus, owned by Stacy Powell, was a member of the K9 Salute Team and a certified therapy dog. Tessa, owned by the Phil Weitlauf, the founder of the MWDM, was the ambassador to the memorial. Phil and Tess traveled the nation educating, fundraising and raising awareness for our K9 veterans.

We are so proud to honor and memorialize these two incredible dogs. All are welcome to join this solemn and heartfelt final salute.

ADOPTED TOGETHER!!! 🥳

Bo and Rue met their forever family and everything just clicked so perfectly from the start! After losing their German shepherd very recently, this family needed these pups just as much as they needed this family. It truly felt meant to be. We are so thrilled that we were not only able to save these pups, but to keep them together in a perfect situation. Thank you to everyone who shared and inquired. The outpouring of support is what really made this happen! ❤

**ADOPTED TOGETHER!! 🥳🥳🥳**
Bo and Rue went to an amazing family together! Thank you so much to everyone who shared!! We are so happy for these pups getting their happily ever after!

HEARTBREAKING RESCUE SITUATION

Rue and Bo saw both of their owners pass away in front of them within 4 months of each other. Their mom passed at home in September, and their dad passed last month. The dogs were in the home with their deceased owner for over a week before they were all found. Unfortunately, the dogs had to stay in that same home for two more weeks while a family friend tried to find a shelter to take them in. When no shelters had space, the dogs were set to be euthanized. Luckily, a dear friend and client of ours reached out to us and we were able to step in and save these sweet pups. We then got them completely up to date on vaccinations and confirmed they are heartworm negative. These are not Stonehill dogs and we don't have a lot of info about their history, they are true rescues but seem to be really nice dogs who just need a bit of love and patience after all they've been through.

Bo (male) is 5 years old and Rue (female) is 4 years old. Bo is friendly and confident with a medium energy level. He is good with other large female dogs. Rue is more laid back and shy and will require patience, though she is very sweet and loves the attention she's been getting. She is nervous of other dogs. We would be open to a meeting with another large male dog, though our preference is a home as an only pet, or with Bo. Neither have been around small animals or children, so we are looking for homes with older children only and no small pets. Both dogs are pretty overweight and have started diets which will need to be continued. The dogs are working on some manners/basic obedience/confidence building here with our trainers while they wait for the right match.

A few months after my dog died, one of my best friends asked me, "What was the best thing about loving your dog?" I stared at the leash still hanging by the door.

"It's how they make you feel alive," I said.

Not in the dramatic, overblown way people like to talk about. No fireworks, no revelations. Just the small things. The sound of their paws trailing behind you, the way they press into your side when the world feels heavy. They don't ask for too much. They don't complain or hurt you in the ways people do. They just show up, every day, and remind you that even in the chaos of it all, you're needed. You're important. You're enough.

And when they're gone, that's when you really get it. The house feels too big. The air feels too still. But you wouldn't trade it. Not a second of it. Because for a while, they gave you something you didn't even know you were looking for. A reason to stay grounded. To keep going. To keep searching for more.

That's the best thing. They make the world bearable in the little time you share together. They make everything feel... a little less cold. And I'm still grateful for that.
