Attention rabbit owners, Rabbit Hemorrhagic Virus (RHDV) has now been officially confirmed in NC. This virus is a risk to both INDOOR and outdoor rabbits. The RHDV2 vaccine can provide protection from this deadly disease. Those with rabbits in need of consultation, initial inoculation or boosters please call (919 844-9166) to schedule your bunny for an appointment. As a reminder, this vaccine should be administered every six months for greatest efficacy.
More information on RHDV:
This virus is spread indirectly through contaminated objects (fomites) like shoes, clothes, food, insects, or even other animals, surviving in the environment for long periods. While keeping them indoors lowers risk compared to outdoor rabbits, strict biosecurity, vigilance, and vaccination are crucial to prevent transmission from wild rabbits or contaminated items brought inside.
